A management information system (MIS) is a computer system comprised of hardware and software that serves as the foundation for an organization's operations. An MIS collects data from multiple online systems, analyses it, and reports it to help management make decisions.
Example:
Mr. Wiseman is Island Fabrics' Chief Strategy Officer. He must forecast the next quarterly production plan, which includes an expected order quantity for each of the company's products, as part of his job. He needs a lot of information and statistics to make a useful and reliable projection that captures the company's current business ecosystem as well as its capacity to produce within those parameters. How could a management information system (MIS) help Mr. Wiseman develop these forecasts correctly?
Mr. Wiseman will be able to get all of the variables he needs to create the forecast from the system. He'll need to examine production patterns, previous sales, current equipment, and current suppliers.
