This can cause problems with breathing and digestion from a young age, over the years the lungs become increasingly damaged and in worst case scenario, they can stop working all together.

Cystic fibrosis is usually discovered through screening tests after birth, it is estimated that one in every 2,500 babies are diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. There are many treatments to help improve the lifestyle of people with CF, however, the life expectancy is reduced for people that have it.

Cystic Fibroses is a gene that is genetic, both the mother and the father have to carry the CF gene in order for the baby to get it. If you have CF your life expectancy is only 20-30 years. 
Symptoms of CF:
A chest infection that is re-occurring. 
Difficulty putting on weight. 
Frequent ‘wet-sounding’ coughs.
Diarrhoea.
Occasional wheezing and shortness of breath. 
When a baby is first boy the key symptom of CF is a baby pooing when they first come out of the womb, the midwifes will then run the baby for tests to see if they have CF. 
Early symptoms of CF can occur when you a child, baby or even early adulthood, and some cases are more severe than others.
