In the morning my students all have their own 6 move handshake. Each morning they line up and we do our special handshake together. We talk a lot about being a team so this helps to have something special between us.

1.Using a math points system for student behaviors they earn as a whole class. We have dance parties and riddles as we earn points.

Giving lots of stamps during instruction and having student stampers during independent work time (stamper gets 2 and gives 1)

One thing we’ve tried as a class this year is creating a large calendar on our white board. At the beginning/end of the day or before the weekend, I ask if there are events students want to add so we can follow up about them and how they went. The kids really enjoy it!

I was having such a hard time remembering to take attendance every day last year, so I found this awesome program: pink cat games that allows the kids to check in every morning and it is so much fun and I think I’ve only forgotten to take attendance once!

My class is VERY motivated by stamps/full stamp cards. In the past this has been a struggle for me to remember to do, so I have been making an effort to make it part of our routine as well as being more aware of how often I am giving stamps to students.

Establishing relationships with students already.

Something I found success with was morning routine unpacking and organizing our papers in folders. I think using visuals and consistant reminders helps. Having student do it themselves so they work on being independent.

I find that my biggest success in the classroom is helping our neurodivergent students feel successful and proud of their artwork.

Getting to know student reading likes, as well as abilities when it comes to making activities. Modifying the activities so that all kids can do something, by creating a environment that everyone has different abilities and is good at different things. If they put forth 100% effort that is what we are looking for when it comes to making...everyone will shine in a different area in our Makerspace!

Positivity and transitions

This year we started a new "star student" acknowledgement to celebrate being a "pro" at our routines and expectations. It ties to our classroom theme, and when students show "mastery" of all routines and expectations (for targeted things I picked out at the beginning of the year)... (see part 2)
