So many different ways of thinking about museums that could be interesting (not sure if International Museum Day has a theme or not), but could relate to:

a) museums as spaces of learning

b) purpose of museums

c) behind the scenes at museums - archives and collections can be cool

d) some of the ethics with museums -- relates to the short form museum activity that has been brought up in current events. Lot of NAGPRA work going on and questions of looted/stolen art.

If I remember correctly, this law, or others similar to it, had an impact on how the Residential Schools in Canada. The laws in Canada were modeled off the ones in the US. I wonder if this can be linked to resources we already have? Opportunity to collaborate and learn from colleagues in Canada?

We have content (video and images) featuring Khamilla Johnson, an upstander in Memphis who, with her student leadership group, helped get a historical marker erected to honor Ell Person's legacy. It's been used before, and maybe we can think of a different way to edit, but is a great way to connect these kinds of histories with student action.

The Eval team has some great positive statistics about how highly teachers rate Facing HIstory PD even when it's "mandated" by their schools. This could be a good piece aimed at school & district leaders about how our PD resonates with educators even when they are skeptical of the potential value/take aways.

Partial Victories

I've been thinking alot about what it means to celebrate partial victories. Scenarios in which the battle is won, but the war wages on. The Little Rock 9 and desegregation for example. I wonder about a small article/blog entry on the importance of acknowledging partial victories as we continue to struggle for full freedom, inclusion, and justice in many scenarios. This could tie into: Nelson Mandela's election and Brown v. Board for example. But could also relate to the anniversaries of exclusion and injustice (Chinese exclusion, Indian Removal, Tulsa Massacre, etc.) that we see in the month of May, and the ways that we are still fighting those battles today.

As a connection to Jewish American Heritage Month, we would love to feature two recent lessons created in partnership with the Jewish Education Project about forging minority identities in a majority society. Both lessons challenge the American mainstream stereotype of Jewish identity as white and Ashke-normative.

Paragraph 175: LGBTQ Pride and Memory

An updated lesson on Paragraph 175 should be published as soon as tomorrow. Paragraph 175 was a German law that criminalized same-sex relationships between men from the 1870s-1960s, but the scope of the punishment was particularly intense and horrific during the Holocaust. I could write something in mid-June about what it means to remember and honor stories that have been less present in the histories that we know and share. (Ambria)

In the past we have done historical timeline content for things like this - I don't believe we have ever created one for this commemoration. The complexity surrounding the amendment vs the VRA decades later feels like it could lend itself to something like this. Imagining as content for social. I think in general there's room to improve this kind of content from a brand/design perspective.
