Mind map + Purpose - Idea 1

Evaluation:

Alright, so checking out this mind map, my first thought as a young adult is that the title "Idea 1" is a total snooze-fest and wouldn't make me want to look closer. While the actual info covers important stuff like the good and bad of social media, mental health, and even solutions, it's pretty text-heavy and feels a bit like homework. To make it more appealing to teenagers and young adults, it seriously needs a more interesting title – something punchy and relevant – and way more visuals like icons and images to break up all the text. Shortening the text bits and maybe even using some more relatable language could also make it way more engaging and less like something we'd scroll right past.

Evaluation:

I decided that talking about mental health, how social media affects you & others, will just bore the viewer as it will just sound like a never-ending sentence. Looking back at my final mind map for the showreel and album trailer, I see a significant improvement in clarity and engagement compared to my initial concept. The detailed breakdown into visual and auditory elements, narrative quotes, and audience engagement strategies makes the plan easy to grasp. The inclusion of behind-the-scenes footage and the "Memory Lane" concept adds a personal touch that I believe will strongly resonate with the target audience. I'm confident that this comprehensive and audience-aware plan provides a solid foundation for a compelling and effective final product.

Evaluation:

The "We Don't Trust You" trailer, a creation of Future and Metro Boomin, really knows how to build excitement with visuals. I noticed the dark, cinematic style right away, with those quick cuts and moody lighting alongside their lifestyle. The music snippets kept me guessing about the album's sound, and I loved how the visuals showed off the artists and the album's themes. If I'm making a trailer, I'd try to get that same vibe going, focusing on strong visuals, the right music, and showing off my own style to hook the audience.

'NUMBER 2 / NEVER LAST' - Lil Tecca (Inspiration)

'Never Last' is a great pick for my album trailer, offering a smooth, melancholic vibe that can create intimacy and introspection, focusing on themes of love, loss and time. I'd suggest for myself to pair it with slow-motion shots, close-ups and nostalgic imagery to evoke longing and reflection, perhaps a montage of scenes that mirror the song's message. The song's structure allows for a narrative arc, starting with a quiet mood and building to a more energetic feel, drawing viewers in and leaving hem eager to the album, potentially playing with the theory (Thematic Resonance/Visual Allegory) that the music video itself is a reflection of the album's core themes.

'Down With Me' - Lil Tecca (inspiration)

As 'Down With Me' by Lil Tecca begins, the trailer will open with a montage of my achievements: a quick flash of a sold-out show, glimpses of studio sessions; or even a shot of me working hard on something music related. As the beat drops, the focus shifts to the relationships that have supported me; shots of close friends, family & others, showing a genuine connection. The visuals will complement the song's message, emphasizing my journey. This might mean interspersing shots of me in moments of self-reflection, maybe writing lyrics or simply enjoying the success. The goal is to convey a sense of gratitude and confidence, showing how far I've come and who's been there along the way. The trailer should make the audience feel the energy of the song, leaving them hyped for the full album.

FMP - Pitch Presentation (Album Trailer + Showreel)

Evaluation:

My pitch presentation clearly conveyed my detailed vision for the project. Talking about my previous project and harshly giving me opinions to each one (only a few) and also talking about which 5 songs will be played in my album trailer and talking about why and how it will affect my target audience on a deeper level. The feedback suggesting a full music video is understandable, my rationale for pursuing a showreel and album trailer approach, rooted in past experience and a desire for a slightly different creative challenge, is compelling. Prioritizing the excitement and innovation in my work, rather than repeating a familiar project type, demonstrates a commitment to personal engagement and growth. It's commendable that I maintained my creative direction, and the positive outcome confirms that following my instincts and pursuing a project that genuinely inspires me is often the most rewarding path.

With a staggering planned camera angles and movements, my approach to visual storytelling is clearly ambitious and highly detailed, and focusing on the top five most frequently used provides a representative overview of my visual style. My comprehensive spreadsheet (camera shot list) , which meticulously breaks down each shot by visuals, sound, lyrics, camera angles, movements, character actions, settings, notes, and personal touches, showcases an incredibly thorough pre-production process that will undoubtedly provide significant control during filming and editing. The inclusion of personal touches further highlights my commitment to injecting my unique artistic voice into the project, making this detailed blueprint an impressive foundation for bringing my showreel and album trailer to life.

Album Trailer - Draft 1

I'm genuinely surprised about the initial draft of my Album Trailer. The precise planning I did beforehand really paid off; the scenes transitioned seamlessly, and the overall structure felt really sold. However, I am aware that to truly capture the essence of the album, I need to refine several media-related aspects. First and foremost, the audio (music track No. 3) needs a thorough overhaul. I'll be precisely cleaning up the tracks, ensuring the levels are balanced and applying some mastering techniques to give each song its unique signature. On the visual front, I'm eager to enhance the effects. I plan to add subtle visual cues that reflect the mood and energy of each track. Transitions are another key area for improvement. I'm considering dynamic crossfades, creative wipes and perhaps even some custom animations to create a more engaging viewing experience. Also, I'll be incorporating title cards (given from feedback) between the song transitions to clearly label each track, ensuring the audience can easily follow along. Color grading will be crucial to establish a cohesive look, ensuring the visuals and music work in perfect harmony. The goal is to create a trailer that's not just informative but also a captivating piece of art in its own right, drawing viewers into the album's world. Also, I will be using a chroma key to cut out my mouse as it appears during transitions due to having an editing problem.

Evaluation:

Personally, It's a seriously impressive and comprehensive toolkit of theories I'm planning to weave into my project. From a young adult standpoint, it's fascinating to see how I'm thinking deeply about why people will connect with my work through Uses and Gratifications Theory, how I'll shape their perception with Agenda Setting and Framing, and the potential influence I might have through Social Cognitive Theory and Cultivation Theory. Considering the role of influencers with the Two-Step Flow Theory and being mindful of representation through Post-Colonial and Male/Female Gaze theories shows a mature and thoughtful approach. Plus, tapping into the dynamics of Fandom Theory and potentially resonating with personal aspirations through Self-Actualization Theory reveals a sophisticated understanding of audience engagement. By actively applying these diverse theoretical lenses, I'm not just creating a showreel and album trailer, but I'm also critically examining its potential impact and reception, which will undoubtedly add a significant layer of depth and insight to my final project.

This is the Title Card I made for 'Kingdom' by Day1 & Nafe Smallz. It uses a distinct, retro-inspired font (Vinco font style, 15 size) in a vibrant orange color against a stark black background, creating a visually impactful and energetic aesthetic. The unique typography immediately establishes a vintage charm, while the orange color adds warmth and boldness, hinting at the wealth and luxury portrayed in this mini music video. The centered alignment and large font size emphasize the title, while the smaller text below acknowledges the artists and myself. This design prioritizes text over imagery, aiming to capture the viewer's attention with it's retro style, The overall effect is one of the nostalgic energy, drawing viewers in with its unique visual identity and suggesting a trailer that will be equally bold and retro-influenced. The rounded, almost playful font evokes a sense of familiarity and warmth, reflecting on the song's themes & the visual narrative of the mini music video. The black background will be intended for chroma key removal, I'd have to make sure that the background contrast is right to maintain the text's legibility and impact in the video.

I designed this Title Card for 'Heart On Ice' by JBEE and its really striking. The font choice is a great pick; those sharp, almost gothic edges (Wargod font style, 15 size) in a vibrant blue against the black background immediately will grab your attention and give it a cool, edgy vibe. The typography really sets a dramatic tone, hinting at coldness or sharpness, and the blue adds a modern touch. I like how the title is centered and large, making it the main focus, with the artist and my name below in a smaller font. It's clear the design prioritizes the text, which works well to create intrigue. The overall effect is definitely intriguing and edgy, drawing viewers in with it's unique look. The font's sharpness suggest mystery and intensity, reflecting the song's themes. I am planning to use a chroma key in the production, I just have to make sure the background contrast is right so the text remains legible and impactful.

This color combination, along with the centered alignment of the title, evokes a sense of urgency, emotional intensity and importance, drawing the viewer's attention to the song's message. I chose bold, slightly condensed typography (size 15) in a light blue color against a black background intended for chroma key removal, ensuring the text can be versatile. The centered alignment and large font size emphasize the title, with smaller text acknowledging the artist and director. My goal was a simple, text-focused design, suitable for a direct and attention-grabbing trailer.

I designed the title card for 'Never last' by Lil Tecca, with the goal of creating a strong visual presence. Using a black background for chroma key removal allows the title to function as a flexible text overlay. I chose a light beige/off-white color and slightly distorted typography to make the title bold and stand out. The centered layout, with the artists and producer credits (me) in a smaller size, was a deliberate choice to prioritize legibility. The effectiveness of the title card will depend on the background's contrast and aesthetic, allowing for versatile integration. Animation and color grading are crucial elements to enhance the text's impact, ensuring it complements the overall visual and auditory experience.

Evaluation:

It's a clever and efficient strategy to take advantage of my mobile device camera's automatic video and photo adjustments, as this minimizes the need for extensive post-production tweaking of basic elements like exposure and contrast. By making only slight adjustments in my editing software, I'm essentially refining the existing quality, which allows me to dedicate more valuable time and focus to the core aspects of my production, such as the overall narrative and impact of my showreel and album trailer. This pragmatic approach streamlines my workflow and maximizes my creative energy where it matters most.

Evaluation:

Okay, having now watched my completed showreel and album trailer video, I feel it's a compelling and engaging showcase of my skills and artistic vision. I think I've effectively blended snippets of my previous work with the narrative elements I planned for the album trailer, creating a cohesive and dynamic viewing experience with a well-considered pace that transitions smoothly between energetic highlights and more reflective moments. The visual language I established in my storyboards has translated effectively to the final product, demonstrating a strong understanding of visual storytelling, and the overall tone feels professional yet personal, giving the audience a clear sense of my capabilities and creative identity. I believe the final video has met my expectations, reflecting the structure I laid out and incorporating those behind-the-scenes elements and personal reflections to connect with the audience. The integration of the five chosen songs within the album trailer section feels natural and enhances the overall flow, and the length and style seem right for capturing attention and showcasing my work effectively. I definitely stuck to my action plan, as the video's progression mirrors the stages I outlined, and the smooth transitions suggest effective time management. I also made sure to implement the safety considerations from my risk assessment, ensuring the public filming segments were well-managed and the post-production editing was done safely. The editing, sound design, and overall technical quality feel perfect, with smooth transitions and clear audio. I think the personal touches I incorporated really add a unique and authentic feel, contributing to my distinct artistic side. While I could perhaps subtly hint at the theoretical frameworks I considered or add a very brief call to action at the end but this is a trailer. Overall, I feel this video is a well-planned, effectively executed, and engaging piece of work that successfully showcases my skills and creative vision. I really feel like I adhered to my planning documents while allowing for creative expression throughout the entire pre-production to the production process.

I made this cover surprisingly quick from scratch. The cover for 'Never Last' ft. Lil Tecca is a well-executed visual representation of the song's theme. The design immediately grabs attention with the title 'Never Last' in a bold, black block font (Anton font style, 230 size), centered on a retro television screen filled with static. This imagery immediately suggest themes of ending, fading memories or disconnection; directly relating to the song's title. The retro TV and matching yellow background create a nostalgic yet clean and eye-catching aesthetic. The minimalist font for the artist names in the corners maintains balance, preventing distraction from the main message. The all-caps title add intensity and seriousness, which creates a powerful visual paradox. The static effect and vintage TV evoke a lo-fi, melancholic vibe, potentially mirroring the song's themes of fleeting love or emotional struggle, common in the artists' music. Overall the design is theoretically strong, visually appealing and effectively communicates the message of fleetingness.

The cover art for 'Without You' created by me, really does masterfully convey emotional depth. The minimalist design and symbolic elements, like the dark, muted color palette and the image of a wooden chair with a red rose, immediately evoke feelings of loneliness and longing, perfectly aligning with the album's title and mixed themes. The bold, gothic-style typography of 'Without You' (Kundiman font style, 275 size, Red) adds a sense of timeless sorrow and the balanced layout, with the date and artist's name, allows the central image to dominate. The subtle grain effect reinforces the themes of reflection and loss. It's a fitting and expressive introduction to the mini-album, promising a deeply felt listening experience.

The cover I made for 'Down With Me' by Lil Tecca immediately suggest themes of trust, authenticity or introspection. The scrapbook-style collage, with torn paper textures and rough layering, creates a chaotic yet emotionally honest feel. The central image of my eyes draws the viewer in, while the surrounding symbolic elements suggest deeper themes of identity or emotional weight. The bold red 'handwritten' font for 'Down With Me' (TC Milo font style, 85 size, Blood Red) injects energy, contrasting the dark background and grayscale elements. Overall, the cover's aesthetic combines to create a powerful visual representation of emotional complexity.

My song cover for 'Heart On Ice' by JBEE, uses a four-panel grid; immediately creating a sense of fragmentation and emotional complexity. Blurred images in two panels hint at mystery and distance, which a clear eye reveals vulnerability. A bold 'LOVED' bar adds intrigue. The monochromatic palette, with a touch of red and pink reinforces emotional restraint with hidden warmth. The clean font 'Heart On Ice' (Prompt font style, 50 size, White) suggest a modern feel, and the partial flower and geometric border adds unique visual elements. This cover implies a musical exploration of emotional distance, vulnerability and the complexities of love, potentially with a modern sound and introspective themes in the song/album.

The cover I have made for 'Kingdom' by Nafe Smallz & Day1 really pops. I wanted it to scream success, luxury and ambition. The luxury cars and big houses were a must to show my material wealth, and the outlined figure with a halo effect; and with the red moon shows Pure Power. I went with bold colors: bright greens, purples and that striking red moon to make it visually dynamic. The title 'Kingdom' in a strong block-style font (Horizon font style, 122 size, glowing white) was all about emphasizing the majesty. The collage style suggest a diverse musical approach, maybe mixing up different styles. Overall, I think the cover effectively communicates the themes of aspiration, confidence and building your own 'kingdom', hinting at a modern hip-hop or trap sound, with strong beats and confident lyrics, combining it with my lifestyle, hobbies and interests in the song/album.

The Album Cover for 'Mixed Emotions' which was created by me, uses a dynamic collage/teenager style, mixing images like a gym scene, a car interior, a smartphone displaying luxury items and a close-up of my eye. This was to suggest a multifaceted and a diverse musical approach. The words 'Mixed Emotions' are centered (Anton font style, 150 size, black), reinforcing the album's central theme and there's a list of professions and attributes that hint at a complex personality (which is me). The car interior with an Audi steering wheel (my personal car) is a big focus suggesting themes of luxury and mobility, while the smartphone imagery reinforces the themes of wealth and aspiration (my lifestyle & interests). The gym scene and an eye close-up adds layers of personal journey and introspection. The varied color palette reflects the album's title, creating a visually fascinating experience. With the details like 'Mini Album Vol. 02' & 'Solihull, 2025', the cover provides content and a timeline, suggesting a modern and reflective musical exploration or emotional complexity and personal growth about me. I believe this cover is perfect of my album trailer, as it visually encapsulates the multifaceted nature of 'Mixed Emotions' and sets the stage for a modern and reflective musical journey.

My storyboard for "Never Last" starts with that nostalgic high-angle view of Survey (a place where I normally work), and I've overlaid the text to give it a specific feel. Then, I envisioned that slow, low-angle shot walking up Alderbrook Rd to build a sense of anticipation. For the college stairs scene, I wanted that high angle looking down to create a feeling of observation. In the gym, I focused on an eye-level shot to really capture the energy of the workout with the clanking weights and upbeat music. That distorted shot was a deliberate choice to create a moment of unease and disorientation. And finally, the low angle from inside the Porsche was meant to feel intimate, with the interior reflecting a theme that carries through the whole album. I'm aiming for a visually dynamic sequence that captures different moods and keeps the viewer engaged

Evaluation:

In y storyboard for "Down With Me," I wanted to create a much darker and more introspective vibe compared to the first song. I started with that gloomy scene in Alderbrook road, using the tall, bare trees and superimposed blue text to set a melancholic tone. The camera moves with the wind and the character to emphasize that feeling of solitude. Then, I shifted to the studio room, focusing on the artist (me) performing in a medium close-up with a circular vignette to draw attention to their movement. The mirrored figures in the bedroom scene are meant to be unsettling and dreamlike, drawing the viewer in with that slow zoom. In the "Empty Chair Scene," I wanted the lyrics to be front and center, creating a direct connection with the viewer and adding a layer of mystery. The tight shot in the "Stress Scene" is all about conveying confinement and pressure, focusing on the character's internal struggle. And finally, that chained figure in the shadows is meant to be a powerful and symbolic closing image, leaving a lasting impression. I aimed for a cohesive visual narrative that explores more complex and heavier themes, using recurring motifs and a specific color palette to enhance the emotional impact of the music.

The studio scene focuses on expressive hand gestures, subtly tracked by the camera, with contrasting warm and cool lighting to reflect emotional nuances. A direct medium long shot of the character interacting with the screen aims to create a sense of direct engagement with the viewer. The "trouble effect" scene uses visual distortion to mirror the lyrical theme of unease, with subtle facial expressions conveying internal turmoil. Finally, a striking low-angle shot of a Lamborghini Huracán Performante provides a contrasting image of departure, with the camera slowly panning as it drives away, accompanied by engine sounds and ambient noise, before fading to black and linking to the album artwork, aiming for a mood of admiration mixed with a sense of loss.

The subsequent medium-wide shot of me facing away in a darker studio aimed to create mystery and introspection, drawing the viewer closer through a slow camera track. A medium shot in the Studio Room, with me holding a heart shape, utilizes soft, warm lighting and gentle guitar chords to convey vulnerability and direct emotion. Transitioning to a more dynamic setting, a long shot in a graffiti-filled bowling alley introduces a bittersweet mood with cool neon tones and my fleeting smile. Finally, a warm-toned, soft-focused medium close-up of a girl experiencing similar flashbacks intends to mirror my internal state and create a sense of shared emotion, emphasized by a slow dissolve effect. It then transitions to a more nostalgic feel with a long wide shot of a house at night, evoking personal history. A medium shot of my documentary pitch highlights communication skills in a professional setting, followed by a reflective medium wide shot of me reviewing documentary footage. A medium close-up during the "British Bangladeshi Documentary" interview emphasizes thoughtful discussion, leading to a concluding medium shot of me walking away in a classroom, using slow motion and fading music to create a sense of closure. The overall progression intends to be engaging and informative, showcasing a range of skills and experiences with varied shots, settings, and moods. This is perfect for transitioning to to 'Conversation Section'.

Evaluation:

For the "Conversation Section," my storyboard begins by establishing the urban setting of Broad Street in Birmingham with a high-angle wide shot, grounding the scene with traffic sounds before focusing on the intimate space of the car for the initial phone call through a medium close-up from my perspective. A subsequent longer shot through a window creates a sense of distance during the conversation, leading to a medium close-up from inside the car capturing my direct interaction. The scene then moves outside the car with a medium shot showing both participants in the exchange, grounded by ambient street sounds. Finally, the section concludes with a medium long shot from the passenger seat as the car drives away, the fading conversation audio giving way to the sound of the engine before a fade to black. This progression of shots and sound aims to visually and audibly represent the unfolding dynamics and perspectives within the conversation. This is perfect for transitioning to the energetic Album Trailer.

Evaluation:

This plan was extremely useful to me during the Album Trailer production. Even though it might seem like random words in numbered lines, it tells a lot for me. Tells me the type of action I'll be performing, the type of location I'll be filming, the type of already recordings I have on my phone that I think would be perfect for some scenes, tells me the camera movements and angles with the combination of transitions; and most important the red text resembles the lyrics that I'll be lip syncing, sometimes words are heard to hear in energetic videos. Overall, the was a crucial plan that helped me create my final major project.

I wrote down a basic layout of the camera work (angles and movements), locations, actions, sound effects, my footage from previous projects, speeches and transitions. I am glad I had this plan made because during filming, I did get lost on what I was doing and needed to look at my plan for a brief second to know what I'm meant to do next, whether that's filming or acting. I nice touch that I added to this plan, was time duration even though each clips were 10 to 15 seconds long my plan was still on the right track.

Looking at the source's section. I recognise that these three sources will be valuable for my project creation, providing a robust foundation for structuring and producing my showreel and album trailer. Smith's insights on visual storytelling will help me craft a more engaging narrative, while Brown's guidance on showreel creation offers practical steps for effectively showcasing my work. Johnson's article on album cover design is crucial for developing a visually striking and representative cover that enhances my artistic identity. By leveraging these resources, I'm taking a proactive approach to ensure my final project is well-informed, skill-fully executed, and ultimately more impactful for my audience. Sadly I couldn't get the links to the original source due to it being set to private by the owner or deleted from the internet, but I did find very similar ones.

As the days flew by in whirlwind of activities, I found myself deeply engrossed in the project, so much so that I nearly lost track of time and almost forgot about the class screenings scheduled for the 29th. Fortunately, having completed all the core components of the project ahead of time meant that I could focus on adding extra elements and refinements. My goal throughout this project has been to give it my absolute all, dedicating 100% of my effort and engagement to creating something truly exceptional. When the 29th finally arrived, the screening went exceptionally well. The audience seemed to appreciate the depth, layering and various different types of effects I had incorporated into the project. Many people specifically noted the effective use of visual and audio effects, recognizing the creative choices I had made to elevate the final product into what they described as a masterpiece. The positive feedback and recognition of my hard work and attention to detail were incredibility rewarding and validated the effort I had put into every single aspect of the project. Despite the overwhelmingly positive reception from my classmates and teachers, only one single critical piece of feedback emerged during the project screening: the album trailer lacked a clear and effective introduction. Reflecting on this, I realized that in my excitement to dive into the creative process, I had overlooked this seemingly simple yet essential element. It’s true that the video is already gaining traction and popularity, which is a welcome bonus. However, I can’t help but consider how much more impactful it could have been with a more defined opening. Perhaps I could have incorporated a line within the ‘conversation’ segment to explicitly hint at the album trailer’s content. While there were subtle clues scattered throughout the dialogue, I’m unsure if they were detectable enough for the audience to fully grasp the connection. Additionally, while the video title, ‘Mixed Emotions – Album Trailer + Showreel’ clearly indicated its purpose, it seems this wasn’t sufficient to guide viewers’ expectations from the outset. This experience has taught me the importance of not only focusing on the intricate details but also ensuring that the foundational elements, such as a clear introduction, are well-executed to provide context and clarity for the audience. It’s possible that the viewers didn’t immediately notice the title and needed to be reminded of it when they offered their feedback. I understand that three detail sections might seem like a lot to take in, but that was precisely the intention of this project. The core purpose was to illustrate the journey I’ve undertaken over the past two years, both academically and personally, highlighting my growth and improvements in mental and physical well-being. As I mentioned before, this video serves as a diary, documenting my experiences and transformations. It captures the moments of meeting new friends, connecting with different people and gaining hands-on experience with equipment that I never imagined I’d have the opportunity to use.
