An’ when the salmon run up river we could catch a hundred of ‘em an’ salt ‘em down or smoke ‘em. We could have them for breakfast. They ain’t nothing so nice as smoked salmon. When the fruit come in we could can it—and tomatoes, they’re easy to can. Ever’ Sunday we’d kill a chicken or a rabbit.          <description><![CDATA[<div>In of mice and men, the writer uses a reference to a family member which could be used as an emotional effect, because if that family member has past it would be a sentimental memory. This is seen with the quote ' like the one gran'pa had' this suggests that the writer wanted to relate to something from their past to add a smidgen of emotion. This has a sad effect on me as a reader, because he wants to do something that would remind him of his grandad and as a reader this has a big impact, because, who doesn't like something sentimental added in for effect. </div>]]></description>
