    Structure: The beginning is very informative. He immediately mentions "the feeds we used to have" (Guy, 70) which references all the food he is going to mention later in the essay. He also alludes to the specificity of the food and how it is native to Newfoundland through setting the time of reference as "not long ago, just before the tinned stuff and the packages and the baker's bread started to trickle into the outport" (Guy, 70).

    Style: Guy saves words in his essay. Most of the sentences in this essay are very short, some so short they are fragments. "Outport soul food" (Guy, 71) is not a full sentence, but saves a lot of words in order to be straight and to-the-point.     Her quotes help support the story and make her sound more human. It brings her point of view more in, rather than having someone else explain everything. It helps show the whole story.
