Punta Cana is a tourist destination, and the area is a key contributor to tourism in the Dominican Republic.

Many of the excursions in Punta Cana are near the water, it being a beach destination. These activities include snorkeling, windsurfing, banana boat rides, speedboats, scuba diving, catamaran cruises, party boats, deep sea fishing, as well as swimming with dolphins and sharks and snorkeling with stingrays. For visitors who prefer to see more of the Dominican countryside, there are land-based excursions such as safari tours, horseback riding and dune buggies.

Visiting the Dominican Republic's smaller Caribbean islands of Saona and Catalina is a day trip from Punta Cana. The capital city Santo Domingo, and Los Haitises National Park, Samaná, are within a couple of hours. The Basilica Catholic Monument, built in 1962 and designed by two French architects, is in nearby Higüey, the 500-year-old capital of the province.

Punta Cana is a tourist destination, and the area is a key contributor to tourism in the Dominican Republic.

Big Love Café – The pancakes are out of this world good along with the French toast. There are no reservations. Arrive early or you might be out of luck. I lived upstairs so it was easy to put my name in. There are tons of places to explore in the neighborhood on a Sunday if there is a wait they will take your number.

Dersou – There are no reservations for Brunch so expect a wait.

Rome (or Roma in Italian) is the capital of Italy and has a population of 2.8 million, the Romans. According to legend, Rome was founded by the twins Romulus and Remus in 753 BCE. The city is located on the banks of the river Tiber and was founded on top of seven hills; Palatine Hill, Aventine Hill, Capitoline Hill, Caelian Hill, Esquiline Hill, Quirinal Hill and Viminal Hill. Particularly the area around Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill would later become the centre of power of the enormous Roman Empire. You can find many ruins and excavations here of the Forum Romanum and the Colosseum gives you an impression of how gladiators had to do battle in this enormous Roman amphitheatre.

What to visit in Rome Italy? With over 900 churches, no other city in the world is so representative for the Catholic faith. Rome has four papal basilicas and seven pilgrimage churches. Each church is more beautifully decorated than the last, with works by the great masters such as Bernini, Raphael, Caravaggio and Michelangelo.

Public transport in Rome can be a challenge. The city has two completed metro lines. A third metro line has been delayed many times as a result of the many excavations. In order to use public transport as a tourist, there are a number of cost-saving tourist passes to choose from. More travel tips about getting around, visiting Rome Italy and tourist attractions can be found in our ultimate Rome travel guide full with tips for tourism and sightseeing.

If you are after traditional cucina romana, Armando al Pantheon and Cesare al Casaletto are so good, but book well in advance if you want to score a table. I also love Piatto Romano in Testaccio, which is especially good for vegetables, though they serve offal, too, so it scratches that itch when you’re craving fibre but also want pajata. For affordable, abundant comfort food, I visit the raucous Osteria Bonelli in Torpignattara. And for super honest, affordable, delicious Roman/Umbrian/Sardinian specialties, plus pizza, served with a smile, Tavernaccia Da Bruno is it. It’s seriously the best. I also love Al Moro near the Trevi Fountain for that super old school vibe with typically aloof service. If you don’t mind being mistreated, you will enjoy it, too.
