How and Why did your family come to the United States?

My great great grandparents on my moms side traveled from Mexico to Colorado and on my dads side my great great grandparents traveled all the way from Italy to the states by boat. My family came to United States so that they can create better opportunities for there children and there children’s children.

What were the obstacles that they met?

Some obstacles my family met while traveling to the states was a long and very tiring journey. On my dads side his moms parents traveled from Italy by boat and eventually made it to Ellis island in New York. Most immigrants there had trouble staying on that tiny island but my grandparents were able to stay. My grandparents eventually moved from Ellis island to Illinois then traveled here to California. Therefore, most of my grandparents went through a lot just to travel into the states.

What was going on Historically in the U.S during this time and did it affect your family?

During this time a lot of immigrants were trying to leave there home lands to travel to the states just like my grandparents. Sadly most people did not make it alive. More than 120,000 immigrants were sent back home and at least 3,500 immigrants died there on Ellis island. But that is just Ellis island imagine how many other people went through this same process somewhere else.
