https://www.apm.org.uk/media/1195/it-project-of-the-year-2015-heathrow-airport-ltd.pdf

The aim of this project was to build an integrated IT system which enabled the handling of baggage between Terminal 3 and Terminal 5 of Heathrow airport. This had to managed within a new four storey building without interrupting the live operation the airport which required an innovative approach.

The objectives of the project involved to develop a system which would route bags from check in to load location with a database storing all baggage data. The system must allow airlines to authorize bags and have communication means to report back to security if identified.

The challenges of the project were mainly in the construction and integration of the new system and trying to getting this implemented into the terminal with minimum distribution to the airports live operations this required continuous tracking and review in order to manage the constraints and ensure success.

The Stakeholders where largely engaged in this project in order to understand what it is they will be getting from the newly implemented system and the mutual benefits it will bring to them. They were informed at each key stage of the project and also brought in technical IT experts from everyone who would be using the system to test it this gave confidence to the stakeholder on what they will be getting.

The results of the project enabled baggage to flow smoothly, innovation was used such as a result of the use of robots to reduce health and safety risk and in a whole delivered an excellent result for its stakeholder’s passengers and Heathrow’s wider community.

Budget – 450 million pounds

Timeline – delivered on time October 2013

Awarded – IT Project of the year 2015

The Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) took on a project to build new homes around the Scotstoun area, upon demolishing the multi-storey flats within the area. The demolition initially began in 2013, with the overall works, from demolition to the completion of the houses and flats due to be finished by end of 2015. The project involved the construction of 116 homes for GHA in a mix of 1 and 2 bed flats, as well as 3 and 4 bed houses on a brownfield site. The development in total included 102 flats and 14 houses with seven of the flats designed to the wheelchair standard.

The budget for the project had been predicted at the cost of £10.8m but ended up costing a total of £9.6m. The project was expected to have been finished by 2015, this goals was achieved as the works were completed by November 2015. Tenants were moved in as early as the project was finished, and with Christmas around the corner, tenants were given more than just Christmas to celebrate.

Speaker Event - Becca Hilsabeck

A project I was a part of was planning a speaker for my business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, last spring. I had to find a speaker that would come to my campus in a rural town that was an hour and a half drive from the nearest city. Having no personal connections with anyone from the business world, I had to rely on suggestions of who to reach out to. Being on a time crunch with only six weeks to schedule the speaker and having no funding, I decided to bring in a local entrepreneur. Her business, Take Root Café, was located just three blocks from our campus which eliminated any traveling expenses that would need to be covered. Another challenge was bringing in a speaker that had new ideas. The owner opened her pay-what-you-can café as a way to decrease hunger in a very poor community. The idea of an entire business being centered around giving back to the local community was vastly different from previous corporate speakers that we previously hosted. The scheduling of her presentation did not go as smoothly as hoped. The first day she was scheduled to speak, she canceled day of because her son was in the emergency room. This caused us to have to reschedule for the last possible day before our deadline.
In the end, however, the project was a success. We were able to bring in a speaker with new ideas for no cost and it was accomplished before our deadline.

The extended essay for my previous school was the only project i engaged with. I tried to provide a business plan and analyse the prospects of a start up company in a specific region in Greece. The industry that the company operated would be fresh cosmetics. The idea was to produce the products in store which would decrease the costs. My job was to find the optimal source of finance for the company given the economic and political situation in Greece. Furthermore i had to implement a SWOT analysis to analyse the external environment. The primary and secondary research alongside with some perceptual maps would position the company in terms of competition in the specific region of its operations.

The badget was 200,00 Euros
Timeline was 8 months however the project was never delivered
