First of all, the Korean war was never happened until the 75,000 soldier from North Korea had poured across the 38th parallel. Regarding the situation, by July, the United Nation, perhaps the US decided to send its soldiers, and fight back to the invasion of communism. The Soviet Union refused this decision. Seoul felled the other day. Then, in September, the North Korean troops had reached to the farthest point. However, then in October, the UN soldiers had fought so hard, they pushed back the North Korean soldiers. Seoul changes its owner for about 4 times. Then, at last, a demilitarized zone was created, which was around the 38th parallel. It means the land was about same as when the war had started.
