However the cuts have been roughly done so instead of a chair you are wanting to sit on you may dis-guard it as the edges may rip or ruin your clothes. Does this make it an object as you can't sit on it? Would this be devalued as it has lost it's purpose.

Reading this article by Tim Ingold I had to read some parts a few times to understand it. However I enjoyed reading about the object and a thing. Object is something that doesn’t have movement whereas a thing has movement or a role, ie. a chair, glasses, cup, plate etc you would think is an object but they are all things as they have a function. Chair allows you to sit, glasses allows you to see better, a cup to hold liquid that you can drink, plate to hold food that you eat. Therefore is a value to these things not in a money sense but to allow us to inhabit with furnishings to make it liveable.
