In honour of his actions; many schools, businesses and parks have added memorials for remembrance. Some countries that have memorials are Argentina, Poland, Isreal and the United States. He has also been nominated for the Nobel prize twice, and postmortem given awards. He did this by giving away thousands of protective documents. Wallenberg was captured and to be executed in 1947. To do this, he declared multiple buildings protected by Sweden and housed many Jewish people inside them. There were as many as 10 thousand Jews in one house at a time. Wallenberg also made multiple fake passports, most of which looked official to German and Hungarian authorities.

He was detained on January 17th, 1945 for espionage and labelled as a "Socially hazardous person." He was allegedly held in a prison for two and a half years before his eventual death.
