Surveys show that creating a safe environment in which the students feel safe to go on an educational journey with each other and the teacher are the most effective. The students all bring something unique to the classroom, their own ethnicity and lived backgrounds, interests, family dynamics, likes, dislikes, religious and political views. It is the teachers responsibility to create an environment which all the students feel safe to explore and discover whatever the class topic is. In order to make such an environment, a teacher creates a sense of community, the students begin to support each other, and the students and teachers must have a mutual respect for each other through open communication without fear of reprisal.
