Active (Manipulative/Observant)

An experience that came to mind for active learning was when I first learned to paint. The first thing I did was grab a brush and dragging colors all over the place. I learned from there about mixing colors and having a steady hand, but it all started with that initial action of picking up the paint brush.

I think that right now we are all experiencing Active Learning as we get used to our online courses. It is all trial and error until we figure out what is expected of us and how to use all of the different websites.

Constructive (Articulative/Reflective)

An example of constructive learning in my life is finding good friendships. It takes experience and observing/reflecting on those experiences to find out what kinds of people work best in your life.

Another experience with constructive leadership was choosing my major. I started off in Art Education, but as I reflected on it I realized that I didn't want to be limited to just Art. I then constructed a plan and switched my major to Teaching All Learners.

I have used cooperative learning mostly in lab courses in high school. We would have lab groups and do experiments together and then discuss our findings. I tend to work better in a collaborative setting.

Another way I experience cooperative learning is within my scholarship program. As an Emerging Leader I am constantly collaborating with other Emerging Leaders to serve our community and represent the U of M.

I have experienced authentic learning in math class. Instead of just learning formulas, my teachers would use real life word problems or ask us to demonstrate when we would use certain equations in our daily lives.

Another way I have experienced authentic learning is in church. Instead of just memorizing verses, we learn how to understand their meanings and live out the teachings every day.

I have practiced intentional learning through my goal of someday opening up a studio where I teach painting classes. I have done this by teaching painting classes in my community and in my home, and using technology to advertise and plan my events.

Another way I have used intentional learning is through pursuing a degree in Teaching All Learners. I am perusing this by taking courses each semester and maintaining good academic standing.
