This specific ventilator can be used on a wide age range of people- from infants to adults. It possesses many different settings such as high flow therapy, a noninvasive option that is typically the last alternative before a patient must be intubated. If a patient decompensates and can no longer maintain oxygen saturation via high flow therapy, the machine can be utilized as a ventilator. The Bellavista also has a lung recruitment tool and is noted to improve synchronous respirations. The machine is also small thus providing more space in an intensive care unit room, and is lightweight for transportation.

Patient's oxygen requirements fluctuate, and sometimes very quickly specifically with COVID-19, but also with other diseases. When a patient decompensates, the care team can change the delivery/ mode of oxygen in a few moments without the added task of locating a ventilator, as the Bellavista can function as a high flow therapy machine AND a ventilator. With high flow oxygen therapy, noninvasive measures are maximized. The lung recruitment tool has been instrumental in caring for patients affected by COVID, as well.
