The group doesn't want Salva becuase they think he is going to be a distraction or slow them down For example he might be hungry more often or want to rest earlier during the journey. So they decided to leave him while he was sleeping. I felt somewhat mad at the group because others also have kids and they decided to take them but not Salva. I am also sort of mad because because if it weren't for the elderly woman Salva would have been stranded.

A reason why water dictates Nya life because she has two long walks to a pond to get water some days it will take hours just to reach the pond and about the same time back just in order support her family. During the dry season it is even harder and gets harder to fetch water due to the heat in the dry season making it even harder for her. The thing that takes up most of my time is studing for instance I go to school five days a week for 6hrs and 20 minutes and
some days after school from 3-6 I would be studying. That's what dictates my life the most.

One of the challenges or survival skills that I have learned is hunting because in the story Salva's uncle kills a antalope like animal for the group to eat.
Another strategie I have learned is learn how to hold your hunger in in the book Salva was really hungry form Walking for hours some times days as so were others but he waited for some some food for instance to antolope like animal and he held his hunger in until he got a good meal.
Lastly the strategy I also learned was to not eat to much because when Salva eat to much heard some others were vomiting during the night. I know this because for instance in the book is stated " embers ate to much so they were vomiting thoughout the night" Those are some skill that I have learned from listening to the book. Yes I think Salva is doing a good job leaning hoe to survive in these circumstances beacaue

Nya at home would walk for hours just to get some water for her family it would consume most of her day but at this camp the is water nearby so it's easier for her to get some water.

I think the group doesn’t want Salva to come along because they feel like he will be a distraction. They feel that he will get hungry more often and slow the group down. That’s the reason why the group left Salva in the barn alone. They left without him because they feel he would slow them down. I feel as if this is very unfair because there were more children walking with the group so Salva wasn’t the only one. They left Salva behind even though he wasn’t the only child. I feel like Salva should’ve been able to come with the group along with the other children.

The reason that water dictates Nya’s life is because everyday 2 times a day she has to walk to get water. You may think this is easy but she has to take 2 long trips everyday just to provide for her family! Even though this job is hard enough during the dry season it becomes harder and harder to get water making Nya’s job even harder. The thing that most dictates my life would be school because every 5 days a week I go to school from 8:30-3:00

One of the challenges is getting food. Everyone in the group is walking for days and days without food. There are many people in the group so if they want to get food they would need to hunt a big animal. Another challenge is trying to survive days or maybe even weeks without school. It is very hard for us in our daily lives to go without a day of food so imagine having no food for weeks! The last challenging part is the fact that you should not eat too much. As it stated in the book because some of the members ate to much they they were vomiting through the night. Yes I think that Salva is surviving very well. Salva is able to walk and keep up with the group even though he hasn’t eaten in weeks. He also sticks with his uncle to make sure if there is any danger he would be safe.

The group didn't take Salva along because he is child and will slow them down. Also since the group dosen't have much food leaving Salva behind would leave the group with 1 less mouth to feed. I feel that leaving Salva behind was rude and unfair because he is alone and he is just a child. But the group still has a valid point in leaving someone behind because rations would last longer.

Water dictates Nya's life beacuse water is a neccesity and you need water to survive. Also Nya has to walk for walk hours to get water for her family. She even has to move houses for water. In the summer when the pond dries up Nya moves to another house and there the water is close but it give very little water. which means it's even harder for Nya to get water.

I think the group doesn't want Salva because the fear that a child such as Salva, would slow them down because of his whining and complaining if he was hungry or thirsty. In conclusI feel really bad for Salva because all he really wanted to do is find his family and he promised to himself that he wouldn't whine or complain and that he would keep silent and speak until asked to. In conclusion, I would feel really bad for Salva if the group had been willing to reject and isolate him.

Her life at camp was a lot more different then that of at her home. Nya's sister was sick and could only drink boiling water, and it was immensely difficult to find water on it's own. Plus, there was worry of the Dinka Tribe. Nya was scared of her family getting injured, or worse.

In my opinion I think that the group does not want to take Salva along because they think Salva might be a burden to the group. Here are some examples:
1. Salva might not do any work and just lay around and just eat and sleep. If he does no work and does not contribute any of his time to work or hunt then he is just wasting their food and being a burden rather than help.
2. Secondly the group members might think Salva will easily get tired and sick during the long journey and that he might die. Therefore, if he gets sick or gets too tired that he can't work, then he is once again just a burden rather than any help.
I feel that the situation that Salva is in quite unfair as Salva has gone through many hardships. If I was in Salva's position I would be quite scared as I do not want to be isolated as I might get killed because of the dangerous warfare.

One of the challenges Salva faced is food. Slava traveled for days without food in the heat of the jungle. Salva survived a few days without food which was very impressive. another challenge Slava faced was having no shelter for example when they were in lion country and had no shelter and had the possibility of being eaten like Marial. I think that the group doesn't want to take Salva because he's a young kid and in their mind, there's no use for a 12-Year-Old on the journey. Also, at this point, people are being selfish and only care for themselves. They have to survive and they're not taking any chances. I personally feel very bad for Salva because he was left behind by his group. Salva has gone through a lot and to be honest, he doesn't deserve any of it. But that's just how life goes.

The group does not want Salva to go along because the group is scared that Salva will distract them. As it says in the book"your still a young boy". They dont fell he is big/old enough. Children need more sleep and get hungry quickly so they feel he will just complain. The way I feel about the group rejecting him/isolating him is kind of sad. But I also feel they made a good choice even though Salva would really like to go I think it will be more safe for him to stay with the women and children.

The three challenges that I've learned about survival are:
1. Never sleep with your eyes closed or a lion will come and devour you whole in your sleep.Always sleep with one eye open
2. Do not drink the dirty water unless you boil it at 200 degrees for safety.
3. The last challenge is to not eat too much because in the chapter before, Salva ate too much and got sick.

Water dictates Nya's life is that Nya has to go twice a day to get water as that is her job, but its really a struggle. She has to take a long walk to help her family. In summer the scorching heat makes people so very tired, but Nya walks through. Even in the winter the cold rough wind blowing on your face makes it hard to see. One thing that dictates most of my life is school as I spend most of my day at school. I go to school from 8:30 am to 2:50 pm. Therefore, school dictates most of my day.

Also at home Nya had to take care of her sister due to the the sickness she had and they had the worry about the Dinka tribe which were there enemies. In the camp it is a lot more safer because at home there is a war going on and they had the worry about the Dinka tribe but at the shelter there are no Dinka tribe members which makes it a lot more safer.

Water dictates Nyaslife because everyday, she has to walk to get water 2 times a day. Just think about taking 2 very long trips just to get water. I bike to school and it only takes me two minutes! I can't imagine how hard Nyas everyday journey is. Nya and her family need water to survive and Nya needs to get enough water before the dry season which makes Nyas journey even harder because it makes it harder for her to find water. The one thing that dictates me most in my life is school because 5 days a week I go to learn for approximately 7 hours. (8:30 to 2:50).

Nya's life is very different in the lake camp then at home. At home, it would take her hours to get a little amount of water and give it to her family. In the lake camp, she has to dig a hole and water will slowly seep through the hole. Though I admit that neither jobs are easy, getting water in the lake camp requires less effort on Nya's part. I think the shelter is slightly better at home because these houses are temporary and might not last as long. But, you have to admit it's a whole lot safer in the lake camp. This is because everyone just wants water so nobody bothers to fight. At home, the Dinka and Nuer tribe constantly fight over land, meaning that it's not that safe. But you also have to admit that you could get killed hunting at the lake camp. So this one's kind of a toss up.

One of the survival skills I've learned is how to save food. Salva has to travel all the way to Ethiopia which is a long journey. Along Salva's trip, food is very scarce and he conserves his food very well. Another skill I learned is how to efficiently use natural resources. For example, they used their resources to make boats to cross the river. The last thing I learned is how to manage in very humid weather. On the long journey, it was very hot and humid, and Salva was very strong during that time. He managed with the heat and crossed the Nile. Considering Salva's age at the time, he coped quite well with all the problems that came at him. If I was in his place, I definitely wouldn't have made it this far, that's for sure. He is very mature for his age and is a quick learner meaning it was easier for him then other people his age to survive. Considering the fact that his family was missing, he made the right decision to go on without them and hope for the best. This shows that he's an independant person who doesn't rely on other people too much.

One of the challenges Salva is faced with is not having enough food. While the group is walking days and days trying to get to Ethiopia they dont have enough food. The only way they can get food is to hunt a very big animal. This is because this group is walking with about 30 people. Another challenge Salva is faced with is is shelter. They are sleeping in as they call it lion land they can just get eaten while sleeping. Soon they will be out of lion land as Salvas uncle said in the book. One other challenge Salva faces while walking is the heat. The humidity was high. They can get very dehydrated very quickly. Considering there is no food im sure there is not a lot of water. I think Salva is doing a great job with learning to survive in these circumstances. This is because Salva is not distracting the group, not complaining and is keeping the same walking pace as the rest.

Nyas life is a whole lot different compared to now at the lake camp than home. Nya at home had to walk 2 very long walks every single day with the doughnut on her head carrying heavy jugs of water. Now at the lake camp she digs a whole and eventually water will start to peep out from the ground. This job still takes a lot on strength but it does seem to be that Nya does find it easier in the book. Another thing is shelter at home the houses you could say were a bit better because they had been living there for obviously a while now, and the houses now are just temporary and might not be built as well. Safety is also a big difference in Nya life. At home they had to worry about the Dinka tribe here it is a little more safe because there is no fighting over the land at the lake camp.

Nya's life at the camp is very different from her life at the village because at the camp the water is very close but there is very little water that comes out at a time.Also at the camp it is fairly safe as they are away from the other tribes that would try to attack them. In the village the water is very far and takes hours to get but it is plentiful and Nya is able to get lots of water at a time. But there it's still fairly safe but there is a chance for a rival tribe to come and attack.

I think the group doesn't want Salva along because Salva is a lot younger than most of the people in the group. Maybe the group felt like salva will complain about getting tired and hungry easily. I feel shocked that the group is l be willing to leave Salva behind because in the story I don't think Salva did anything wrong. In my opinion younger people are better at hearing and seeing so they will actually help the older ones and may even be safer because he is younger.

During the wet season she has to get water from the lake and during the dry season she has to dig very deep holes and get the water and she has to do this for 6 or 7 months everyday

The group doesn't want Salvador because he is a kid and he will slow down the group.A other reason that they don't want Salva is because he will wine alot that he is hungry and thirsty

The three main problems Salva has is the lions, dehydration and hunger, and the government. To me though I think throughout the story he has been struggling, which is reasonable, but he is still alive to this day and he now has a biography about him, so he's probably doing well.👺👺

Water dictates Nya’s life. In the book it tells you she goes back every day to get water for her family. The water she was getting was dirty so her sister got sick. Basketball dictates my life because I put my all into it and if I do not do something right I put pressure on my self.

The group doesn't want Savla along because he is young. They don't want a young boy with them because they think he will wine and complain about no water,food or sleep. I don't like the fact that the group was gonna leave Savla. He is a young boy so he could die easily so I would feel more safe on Salva's part that he would be more safe. He could also help the group. He is small so he could go through small places to get food, water etc.

I think they didn’t want Salva because he might be too slow and they would have to feed him, cutting off their supply food short a little bit because of him. I feel like they tried to make a smart choice to reject him so they had a better chance of survival. Ok so yeah bye.

At the camp nya has easer access to water but she has less shelter than at the house she has more shelter but she has the walk all day going back and forth and to pond.

Nya has to walk a long way to the lake and back to her house and back to the lake again and it repeats every day.
When the lake drys up she has to move every time the lake drys up. School controls me because I have to go there every day.

Nyas life at home is tough because she has to walk very far to water 2 times a day in hot weather. At camp she is closer to water but she has to dig and sometimes it is dirty, and sometimes people die, but there is shelter and shade.

They didn't want Salva, was because they thought Salva would just be a waste of food. Plus they thought it would slow everyone down. Salva might lack behind a little and get lost when the group is too far. Salva would not be able to provide much help for the group. The group found Salva useless.
