In this classroom, us teachers work together to create an inclusive, welcoming environment so each student feels respected and supported. In our class, students will learn through group and solo work to build on collaboration skills and their independent learning. We believe that music and a positive attitude can set the tone for a joyous classroom, so we make sure to include activities that consist of that. Furthermore, we know it is essential to recognize and consider each students background in order to successfully teach them. That is why we work hard to get to know and represent each student. When it comes to communication, we like to be open and honest with the families, so that should there come a time for them to intervene they are aware and ahead of their students behaviors.

Finally, we’d just like to include that in this classroom we choose to use technology in a limited way to instead focus on hands-on activities such as reading, writing and building communication skills.

This math lesson, Adding with M&M’s, uses sweet treats to help students do hands-on math. In this lesson students will utilize small M&M candies to show addition problems. In our classroom we like to utilize hands-on activities to encourage participation. This specific lesson allows students to independently take what’s in their head and put it on paper with physical elements that may make it easier for them to understand.
