I think Karana let Rontu fight his own battle because she didn’t want them to fight again perhaps at some other places less favorable to Rontu. Plus, this was a fight between the two other dogs and Rontu. I think Rontu never leaves again because he was probaly afraid of the dogs and he didn’t want to get hurt again. Karana did not stop the fight as it was a battle between Rontu and them, and the current fighting place seemed best for Rontu with the sea cliff behind him preventing the attack from this direction. She thought even if she stopped once, they would fight again in less favorable situation for Rontu.

Rontu never left again because he acknowledged Karana as his master. He fought with wild dog pack to protect Karana then won. Therefore, as long as he stayed with Karana, wild dogs could not come close to scare their life because of the fear for strong Rontu, and surely it was the case. Sudden left for fight and subsequent stay without left was based on the same reason, simply to protect Karana.
