He works hard to become a very rich man, owns a beautiful mansion, and throws a lot of huge, expensive parties in the hope of catching Daisy’s attention. However, Daisy loves both Gatsby and Tom. She married Tom because he is able to give her what she wants: money, status, and freedom. Tom, on the other hand, continues to have feelings for Daisy in spite of his affair with another woman. The relationship between Daisy and Tom is solely based on a superficial level of love. That is, it is shallow and unreal. In my opinion, the author is trying to portray that love can be a good motive for reaching goals, but it can also be fragile and unrealistic at other times.

The reader can be represented because as you read through each chapter, you see the true self and dishonesty of each character and what is happening throughout the story. Just like the gigantic eyes of TJ Eckleburg on the billboard that mentioned in the novel, it is watching over the people of the city work and live every day. 

The woman on the cover with her tears rolling down may symbolize Daisy. Her looking sad is mainly due to the fight for Daisy between Gatsby and Tom and all the tragedies that happened around her. The colorful and shining buildings at the bottom may resemble the huge parties Gatsby had thrown, his glamorous mansion, and more specifically, his fancy lifestyle.

Gatsby is the perfect example of attaining the American Dream. He was born in a poor family, but his determination of pulling himself out of poverty pushed him hard to buckle down and go the extra mile. His love for Daisy also became a key component of his motive to reach the goal. Eventually, with his great effort, he successfully achieved his dream of being wealthy. After his achievement, he starts to try to win Daisy back and make her fall in love with him again just like 5 years ago when they met in Louisville. Sadly, he was murdered at the end of the story and Daisy was part of the reason.

Katherine was whom I considered best friends at the time. Everything was going well and we got along with each other during the first few months after we met. She seemed to be a caring and loving person; however, it was not until one time when she started talking things behind my back with my other friends that I realized what kind of person she was. I was being ignored and felt strongly betrayed. What’s worse, it happened all of a sudden and I had no clue about the reason. I was not someone who would take initiative to confront a person like Katherine and figure out everything. Therefore, I was alone at school from then on to the point where I was so depressed and could not focus on school work.

From the past to the present, people seem to have gradually regarded wealth as something that is more indispensable and important than true love. It is understandable that money makes everything possible. However, it can be dark and twisted when it comes to choosing between money and love. Ironically, people are willing to trade love for wealth. Their thirst for money is stronger than that for happiness. People think that having a lot of money will fulfill their desire in life. As Daisy in the text, she loves having materialistic things rather than a real relationship with people. Love is intangible, but it is what connects one another.

In terms of wealth itself, it is practically impossible for people to become rich overnight. Therefore, people somehow use a dishonest way to earn money. As Gatsby in the text, he earns his money from bootlegging alcohol which is illegal at the time in the story and also earns a lot of money from fake stocks. The problem remains in our society, and it may become more prevalent in the future.

I was lost for words when I read Gatsby was murdered and was killed by George Wilson at the end of this chapter. I mean they barely knew each other, why would George think that Gatsby was the one who had an affair with his wife, Myrtle. Although Tom told him it was Gatsby who ran over Myrtle, he had no proof for that statement. He could not just sneak into Gatsby’s house and kill him based on the comments from one person. That’s nonsense! One more thing that I don’t understand is why George could sneak into his house so easily and there weren’t any guards stopping him. No one called the police or medicals, they just left Gatsby dead in the pool. It is so sad to see this happened to Gatsby.

Nobody wanted to go to Gatsby's funeral. Nick was the one having a funeral for Gatsby; he called and invited his friends to attend. Ironically, they didn’t seem to care about his death, not even Daisy. After everything Gatsby had done for her, she did not even bother to be there and to say her last goodbye. Instead, she ran off with Tom. Just like Nick said in the chapter, “They were careless people. They smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made...” In my opinion, Daisy should have at least showed up at Gatsby’s funeral in remembrance of his kindness, sympathy, and compassion. When Daisy decided not to go, it further proved that she is such an indifferent and apathetic woman. All I can say is that I feel extremely bad for Gatsby. I was completely taken by surprise at how horrible and tragic the end of the story is.

The truth is, he was born in a family of farmers in North Dakota, and he never went to University nor graduated from there. Instead, he went to St. Olaf College in Southern Minnesota for two weeks but then drifted back to Lake Superior because he despised the janitor’s work there.   

As a young man, he spent years working with a man named Dan Cody. Cody was a really rich man with a yacht. While traveling with Cody, Gatsby then fell in love with wealth and luxury. He saw and learned the influence that money had on people. This became his motivation. He never wanted to be poor again.

However, despite the fact that his dream of having a real relationship with Daisy becomes unrealistic, Gatsby’s love for Daisy will always be there.
 
To me, the color green symbolizes our culture is nature, tranquility, money, and luck. Trees and grasses are all around in our community. It brings vitality and a sense of refreshment. Moreover, the color green that symbolizes nature is also associated with an eco-friendly environment. Our dollar bills are also in color green and it has come to be known as "greenbacks". Luck symbolizes the color green because lucky grass is rare.

My impression of Tom Buchanan is that he is a very rich man and lives in East Egg. He looks strong. Tom gives me a feeling of bad-temper, like he would yell at somebody and be impatient.
