It is a great way to check for understanding and review what we have been learning in the previous days. Doing a daily warmup helps teachers to check for understanding for what they have been learning in class. If students struggle with the warmup question, it give teachers the opportunity to reteach the concept. Another benefit that I have found with a daily warm up is that it helps students transition between classes by giving them a routine. We are a few weeks into the school year, and all of my classes that do a daily warmup know the routine already. Once the bell rings, they know they are to complete their daily warmup. It gets them prepared for class, and I have found that it will help them to transition between classes.

A lot of the time, students are eager to get out of class during the last few minutes. Having a dismissal procedure helps this time go more smoothly. A couple minutes before class ends, my co-teachers and I instruct students to start packing up. In one of my classroom, each student has a folder for their work, and know to leave any unfinished work in their folder. Depending on the period, we have a procedure in place where students take turns to put their Chromebooks away and charge them, going row by row. Implementing a dismissal procedure helps class end more smoothly, where students know the routine as they are getting ready to be dismissed.
