Brian's character archetype can be described as a geek, smart kid, as well as a nerd and while i'm not all those things I would definitely say I relate to him the most out of all five characters. The first reason being, we are both seen as intelligent individuals. Brian and I are straight A students, he is a hard worker, very studious and involved in many academic clubs and after school activities. I am very similar I am also very studious and have achieved honour roll and straight A's all throughout high school. Brian and I are also the people others go to for homework help. For example, towards the end of the movie the students remember they were supposed to write an essay during detention about who they think they are. Claire decides to convince Brian to write her essay along with everyone else's. One obvious reason she went to him was because she knew he'd be easy to persuade but she also knew that he was smart and determined enough to do a decent job. Personally, I'd never do someones homework but Iv'e had a lot of other students ask me questions about assignments throughout elementary school and high school because they perceive me as a smart kid.

Another characteristic Brian and I share is loyalty. We are true to who we are and are not embarrassed of our friends. In one part of the movie Brian asks the group if they'd hang out again after detention. The group responds in a shallow way explaining that it would be embarrassing to been seen together because they're from separate cliques. He finds this ridiculous and says he wouldn't care about any of that and I have to agree because I've been friends with a lot of different kinds of people and never cared how it might look. At the end of the day I get along with this person and enjoy hanging out with them.

While Brian is known as the nerd of the group he also has a good kid reputation and so do I. Brian and I are not very rebellious students, we are respectful and we don't get into trouble often. He does mention that he has a fake ID but he doesn't use it to get into clubs, to drive, or drink he uses it to vote. I am not a troublemaker myself, I listen to what my parents say and abide by their rules because I believe that they are wise and if they are giving me advise why wouldn't I take it.

Family = Motivation

Brian and I are both motivated to do well in school by our family but in very different ways. In the beginning of the movie we see his mom dropping him off for detention and reminding him to study. When he explains that the detention is not for studying his mom insists. During the climax of the movie we learn why each student is serving detention and we learn that Brian is in there because a flare gun went off in his locker. Now the real kicker is that he planned to end his life with that flare gun. He explains that he's failing one of his classes and wanted to avoid his families wrath, since getting straight A's is a norm in his house hold he was stressed from the pressure and terrified of the disappointment to come. He mentions that even if he aced the semester he'd only be average and so he'd rather die than have his family see he failed. Fortunately, my family is the complete opposite. My parents made sure I valued my education and ensured I was always doing well but never put pressure on me about it. They supported me more than anything, this caused me to appreciate them more and to this day I want to make them proud.

I think it's easy to see that Brian enjoyed his experience in detention. He laughed, he smoked, he shared his deepest darkest secrets and asked if they'd continue hanging out. Brian likes making new friends and so do I. I'm actually more extroverted than Brian seems to be, I love meeting new people, having a good conversation and I definitely can't go many hours without socializing. I'm always the one to strike up a conversation and I'm always the friend to initiate plans.
