Colour pallet that is supported

The supported colour pallet for a GIF image only supports up to 256 colours which is an 8 bit colour depth. This meas that there are only 8 bits per each base colour (RGB). Overall this means that there is a limited number of colours that a gif image can have which will make the image look dull or even not as bright as it could be.

Disadvantage of using the GIF format- Can GIFs be opaque rather than transparent

The creator is able to have a background for the stage OR a transparent background. This file format doesn't support opacity. So when you create the GIF you have to have one or the other

How would you keep a GIF animation file size small?

Trimming Animation

First of all you will need to open the video file with Photoshop or another editor. Most of the time you won't need the whole sequence for the GIF animation, so you can trim the video in the Timeline Panel. Turn on the Loop option and try to find a good place to trim your video.

Reducing Image Size

You can either reduce the image size from the Image menu or do it later in the Save for Web dialog box. The video layer will have to be turned into a Smart Object if you resize the image, but you don't have to worry about this, it won't effect our workflow at all.

Both of these are a disadvantage because it takes a little longer to produce and to finish.
