King Louis XVI: " The National Assembly was never in my plan. I needed the Estate General to assemble and figure out a way to deal with the countries debt. I assumed all would go as planned since the First and Second Estate outvote the Third, but now all this talk from Abbe Sieye has made a big mess that I don't know what to do with. I decided that I must make a physical appearance at the meeting that was to occur in three days time. I wanted to resemble the original Estate General. The delegates from the Third Estate then arrived at the meeting to locked doors. The next thing I hear from my staff is that they have broken down the door to one of the tennis courts and are refusing to leave . I am then made aware that they have decided among themselves not to leave until a new constitution is drawn up to their standards. After much consideration and advice from my advisers I command the nobles and clergy to join the Third Estate."

https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-tennis-court-oath-jacques-louis-david.html?product=art-print

Maximilien Robespierre: "The country is tired of their treatment and hungry for equality. Rumors are spreading and causing violence in the cities and towns of France. That is why the Fall of Bastille did not surprise me. France's lower and middle class are scared and want a bigger role in government. They were waiting for a spark to ignite, and that is what happened on July 13th, after royal authorities ordered barrels of gunpowder to be delivered to Bastille. The citizens began gathering weapons to protect themselves and raid the prison. Some believed troops were coming to kill French citizens, while others thought the military was coming to get rid of the National Assembly. On July 14th, a mob raided the prison, demanding them to turn over the gunpowder and weapons. They ended up seizing control of the building and killing many of the guards. Their heads were then paraded through the streets on pikes. This violence bothered many, but it does not bother me. In my opinion it has to happen in order for equality and change in the country. The fall of Bastille was a symbolic act that helped spark the rest of the revolution."
https://fineartamerica.com/featured/the-fall-of-the-bastille-colour-litho-mike-white.html

Abbe Sieyes: " On August 27, the National Assembly passed the Declaration of the Rights of Men and Citizens. This was a joyous day for me and the citizens of France. I was so honored to have a role in creating this and the Tennis Court Oath. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen gave freedom and equality to all men. This includes freedom of speech, religion, and press. It also states that all men are born equal and are equal under the law. Though women and slaves are not included in this, it is a start in the right direction. Change is finally possible in France. The declaration will serve to create a fair government where the people have a say and there is no corruption."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_the_Rights_of_the_Man_and_of_the_Citizen_of_1793

Marie Antoinette: " I am an absolutist, so what happened this day bothers me very much. My husband is the true ruler of France and should be treated as such. First, the 6,000 Parisian women demanded the National Assembly do something and provide them with bread. Then they took out their anger on my husband and myself. Breaking into our beautiful palace in Versailles and killing two of our guards. The women then raided our kitchen stealing all of the flour and bread in the palace. Then these lunatics began to demand that my husband and I come with them to Paris. I begged my husband not to give in. He is the only and absolute ruler and giving into them would make him look weak. Though after a while, he surrendered and we were on our way to Paris."
https://www.missedinhistory.com/podcasts/womens-march-versailles.htm

Marie Thérèse: " I am the only one in my family left, the only child who survived into adulthood. After being taken out of our home in Versailles the revolution grew and the fate of my family became more and more clear. As the National Assembly began to reconstruct the relationship between the church and state, my fathers power as king began to dwindle. Though I was young, I knew we were living in constant fear of our safety. Many of my fathers advisers told him we were in danger. Even citizens who supported monarchy began to flee the country in fear of their safety. Finally in June, our family made an attempt to escape to Austrian Netherlands. We were so close to the border when my family was caught and returned to Paris. The word of our attempt to escape got out and angered the revolutionaries. Our families fate was then sealed."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Thérèse_of_France#/media/File:Duchess_d%27Angouleme.jpg

Constitution of 1791 (The Legislative Assembly)- September 1791

Olympe de Gouges: " I believe this constitution is useful and finally gives the people more of a say in their lives. But what about women? We deserve the same rights and freedoms men receive. Though I must say, I finally feel our country is in a place where women's rights are finally possible. This constitution strips away most of the kings power and creates a whole new body in government, called the Legislative Assembly. Though the King still has power to enforce the laws, this assembly will create laws and determine whether or not our nation makes declarations of war. France still has a lot of work to be done involving women, and i won't stop written and sharing my thoughts until this happens. At least now, this constitution creates a fair government and eliminates social status as a restriction.
Execution of King Louis XVI- January 1793

Napoleon Bonaparte: " I always supported the revolution, though I wasn't in France for a lot of it. I was with the french army fighting Austria, Prussia, and England. Then I received word that all of King Louis XVI's power had been taken away and he was in prison awaiting trial. He was then tried for treason and found guilty by the Convention. Though it was a very close vote, King Louis was sentenced to death. On January 21, 1793 he was beheaded by a guillotine. I was happy my country finally was free, though we still had many battles to come. The next year, I was promoted to brigadier general because of my many victories on the battlefield."

Georges Danton: " It is April 4, 1794, tomorrow my friends and I will be executed. I have lived a life I am proud of. I always stood up for what I believed in and was pretty successful until Robespierre's Reign of Terror started last summer. It began after I was elected into the Committee of Public Safety last April. After three months of working on Frances foreign affairs and compromising with our enemies, I decided I wanted to focus on pursing peace in the country. This decision caused me to look like a moderate and I was not re-elected. As the Reign of Terror continued, more and more people were sent to death whether they were guilty or not. Though I was not in the government anymore, I used my moderation to speak out about all the violence in an effort to make it stop. Robespierre became a dictator, changing the calendar, closing all churches in Paris and now sending many innocent people to death. Four month later, my friends and I were arrested, and now I am in prison reflecting on my life before I die tomorrow."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maximilien_Robespierre#/media/File:Robespierre.jpg
