         <description><![CDATA[<div>A legal member of a state or nation who owes allegiance to its government. <br>Ancient Greeks took citizenship very seriously. Male citizens in Athens could vote on all the decisions that affected the city and serve on juries. However, democracy was not open to everyone. Citizen women and children were not allowed to vote. Slaves and foreigners living in Athens  were banned from participating in government.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>An oligarchy is a form government which  is  rule by a few leaders.<br>The conection from oliarchy to Greece is that in several greek city states small groups of people shared their power with eachother. Political power was often shared with aristocrats who inherited power from their family and kings. Oligarchs live luxurious lives. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A tyranny is a form of government which is ruled and controlled by an iduvidual who has siezed contol, which is often by illigal means. <br>Tyranny is connected to Ancient Greece because at 600 B.C. many city-states a wealthy middle-class of merchants became angry with their rulers. They demanded political and social privileges, but the ruling oligarchy would not grant them. They seized power and changed the laws to their aid.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A monarchy is a form of government ruled by a single person, usually a king.  Also, the king is helped with the council of advisers. The connection to Greece is the Mycenaean's who ruled ancient Greece were warrior people who established monarchies to rule their kingdoms. The king of each city-state lived in a palace at the capital. Beyond the capital was a network of villages.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A democracy is a form of government which is controlled by all of the people.   <br>The connection between democracy and Greece is democracy developed in a city-state called Athens where many people began to oppose the rule of tyrants. The main governing body of the Athenian democracy was the Citizens Assembly which was held 40 times a year.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>A democracy in which the power to govern lies directly in the hands of the people rather than being exercised through their representatives.<br>Athenian democracy developed around the fifth century BC in the Greek city-state of Athens. Other Greek cities set up democracies, most following the Athenian model, but none are as well documented as Athens. It was a system of direct democracy, in which participating citizens voted directly on legislation and executive bills.</div>]]></description>
