World War II took place from September 1, 1939 to September 2, 1945. Chemical warfare started during World War I and continued to make advancement through the following years. Poisonous gas contains many things including: choking agents, blistering agents, blood agents, nerve agents, incapacitates, riot-control agents, and herbicides. Gas masks were very hot and smelly which caused some people to feel sick. The gas masks at the time made it hard to breathe, and even though they were not an enjoyable thing to wear people carried their gas mask everywhere with them. Some of the commonly used gases during the war included: mustard gas, causing extreme pain and blistering as well as some respiratory problems; cyanide, carbon monoxide and cyanogen chloride were also used and all of these caused the blood to be unable to absorb oxygen which leads to body shut down soon after.

The mask has been proven effective by most agents including sarin and mustard gas. The mask could also protect the eyes from laser sight and flash-bang grenades. This mask was replaced by the M50 gas masks.
Christion Phillips
