When the asteroid hit the moon and shifted it is significant because it disrupts the plot of the story and causes change. It causes change by making the tides go wack. The setting is important because it’s being affected by the events. From the tides to the earthquakes destructing earth and killing people. The mood is sad and depressing causing Miranda to start to give up. The setting is important to this event because it causes change to the earth.

Tsunamis and islands being submerged is significant because entire areas around the world end up under water and people die. This causes Miranda to worry.  Causing all the devastation and destruction that came with. The setting is important because the events from the moon caused 20ft waves.

This event is important because it shows us the chaos that the world has descended into. It is also important because it lets us know that this is the point of no return, and things can only get worse from here. Finally it makes Miranda worried about her future which makes her more anxious throughout the future. The setting is important to this event because it is directly affected by this, and is one of the main problems of the book afterwards. 

This is significant because it makes Miranda feel not alone and loved. It changed Miranda because she felt happier than when she was stuck in the house. It makes Miranda's mom mad at her and has a negative effect on their relationship. The setting is Miranda’s house where the mood is anxious because her and her mom do not want the same thing.

Volcano eruption 

One reason is because it covers the sky in ash, and make it incredibly hard to see which changes the setting majorly. It also makes it impossible to tell whether it's day or night because the sun isn’t visible from the ash which also makes a major change to the setting. Finally it is hard to breath, and you usually need a mask to breath through the mask. The setting is important to this event because 1: It what is being affected by these changes, and 2: The characters are all more upset, and makes their world even worse than it already is making their mood worse. 

One reason this event is important is because it changes Miranda because now she feels sad and lonely with her best friend gone.  After Sammi leaves the only friend Miranda has is Megan and she does not really like her, which makes her feel even more lonely.  Miranda does not go out as much and spends more time with her family. The setting is at Miranda's house, and this adds to the event because Miranda is twice as surprised because she expected it to be good news. 

This event important because her Mom is now very hurt which makes her very unable around the house unlike she was before. It also reveals to us that people aren’t allowed in the hospital as easily as it was before. Finally it's important because Miranda grows closer with her mom. This is important to the setting because mom can’t help, and she doesn't argue with Miranda much anymore.

This event is significant  because Megan’s mom hung herself because of the misery. Miranda feels alone, and all of her friends are gone after this. This also reveals to us that Reverend Marshal has been hiding food from people. The setting is important to this event because Miranda doesn't even get to see the actual body, and have one last goodbye.

Mrs.Nesbitt's death

Mrs.Nesbitt’s death is important because her death allowed the family to get more supplies which helped them survive longer. It is also important because Miranda's family collects a bunch of gifts which help them have a very happy Christmas which improves their hope, and mood. The setting is important because if Mrs.Nesbitt died somewhere else people might have known, and raided her house before Miranda, and her family.
