We have raised £36 🌟

We have been thinking about "Where in the World?" 🌎 and looking at Planet Earth and the difference between the water and the land on the globe. The children then created their own planet earth 🌎

We have been talking about where in the world we live and looking at Runcorn on Google Earth. Then we played the "Home or Away" game by looking at photographs of different images and deciding whether they are from near ti home, or if we would need to travel away to get to them.

The children have enjoyed reading "What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside." We have started to explore the seaside and sea creatures whilst seeing what latest bad plan the two bad men have been upto!

In Drawing Club, we have been drawing and writing about the characters from the story. We have also been continuing to write our independent sentences.

In Maths, we have subitising with the help of 5 little kittens. They have been helping us to develop our subitising skills and identifying how many kittens were hiding each time.

We have started our new book Grandad's Secret Giant'. We can't wait to see what happens in our story about a helpful giant that helps out in the town of Gableview.

We have started our block of coaching with Jo from Cheshire Cricket. The children had a great time paying games and developing their skills. Jo even brought her speaker outside and we listened to some of our favourite music whilst enjoying the session.

We have had a science week this week also, consolidating our learning from across the year through different investigations and answering questions. One session resulted in a very wet and soggy gingerbread man!

Since our last newsletter, we have been busy completing activities related to animals and their habitats, including more recent work on minibeasts in a fun and sensory way, which the children have loved. Our new book is called 'I'm Going to Eat this Ant' which is all about a very hungry anteater!

We have been practising our 0-10 number bonds and addition in lots of different ways to make sure that we have a thorough understanding.

In the coming weeks, we will be having some transition sessions where some of our children go up to Sycamore class and we will be welcoming some of our new pupils to spend time with us, ready for September.

Quick reminder - please can we ensure that all children have proper trainers on P.E. days which are Tuesday and Thursday.

We have started our English work on our new book Blue John by Berlie Doherty. We have been looking at improving our description by including expanded noun phrases and prepositions whilst describing what we might see in a deep cave.

In maths, we have continued our work on times tables in preparation for the year 4’s times tables check. We have been looking at the 7 times tables and we have used our knowledge to help answer word problems.

In science this week, we have started our new topic Living Things and their Habitats. We have been classifying different animals and plants by different characteristics, using Carrol and Venn diagrams to show the groups.

In PE, we have been practising our catching skills in cricket with a cricket coach. We enjoyed lots of different catching activities including throwing treasure from the chest to our team mates.

Our Y5s are taking part in a special art project where they create graffiti hats, and then write a rap and record it as a music video! Keep your eyes peeled for it's release in September.

We also started our sports day practice- the children cannot wait for it this year, and have begun their training already-it will be highly competitive!

We worked on publishing our leaflets based on landfill from last half term- they have created some beautiful looking leaflets that contain wonderful information about our environment.

Finally, we have been working on place value in our maths- reading and writing some very big numbers which will prepare us for September!

In English, we have started our new text, The Search for the Giant Arctic Jellyfish. The pupils have enjoyed learning about the Arctic and the fascinating animals that live there. We explored the different roles within Dr Morley’s crew before writing persuasive letters to encourage them to join our expedition.

In Maths, we have been revisiting place value to ensure our understanding of number structure is secure. We have also been trialling a new scheme of work, and the children have responded very positively to it.

Year 5 have also taken part in a fantastic 'Colour and Beats' workshop, where they designed and created their own caps in preparation for filming their very own music videos!

Tasty Tuesday this week, we made some delicious chocolate dipped strawberries with white chocolate drizzle. We also enjoyed playing some group games taking turns.

Wednesday the children played with the 'ball joint lego' making some amazing structures. We also coloured 'superhero and 'Roblox adopt me' colouring sheets.

Thursday, we got lots of chairs out and a huge box of materials and did some den making which is always a favourite activity! Some of the children used the materials to play dress up and had a great time.

Friday  was film night and we watched 'Despicable Me 4' and had hot dogs and popcorn.

What a great first week of the new term!
