As we continue with him throughout his day, we learn that he is constantly in trouble for breaking the rules of his space. For example when he disrupts class, speaks when it is not his turn, or when he makes a mess in the cafeteria. Throughout his challenges, David eventually learns the importance of following rules and being respectful to those around him. His efforts to follow the rules are recognized with a gold star to highlight his behavioral growth.

Personal connection: This book reminds me of when I was very young (preschool) and began understanding the importance of rules and boundaries in the classroom. I struggled with understanding why rules were important to listen to but I eventually learned it is to keep us safe, help everyone get along, and learn together. Just like David, I realized that following rules made school a better place for everyone.

Curricular connections: social studies, math, art

Source: public library

Suddenly, the whole situation seems less black-and-white. This contrast invites readers to think critically about how perspective shapes our understanding of events, and it brings into play fairness and bias in storytelling. It’s a great reminder that there are always multiple sides to every story.

Personal Connections: Growing up knowing the story of The Three Little Pigs, it was fun to read this story from the wolf's perspective because, in the original story, he is the bad guy.
