The followers had more power than they would in Catholicism. They would live in a theocracy. People became "equal." Everyone had sins and you could only hope that you were chosen to go to Heaven.

Calvinism had strict morals which in turn could have led to less crime in Geneva. They believed in predestination, and overall, Calvinism was a more personal religion where people could interpret scripture for themselves. Calvinism was also more organized and had a hierarchy which created order for the calvinist.

It's possible that not being able to earn salvation may have contributed to the appeal of Calvinism. Then, followers wouldn't have to blame themselves or their actions for not going to heaven, since it was a predetermined thing. Also, those who believed there should be a connection between the church and the state would like Calvin's support for a theocracy. It also represented people having a closer relationship to God.

Calvin thought that people should enjoy God's gifs rather than worry about salvation. He also thought that city leaders should be religious leaders as well, so he established a self-governing city with strict rules and decreased crime.

Followers had more control over the church. Therefore the church was less likely to become corrupt with power. It was more personal than the Catholic church. Salvation was already chosen it didn't matter what you did in life god already chose if you were going to heaven or not.
