One interesting character interaction in Act 2 is Troy and Bono in scene 1. Bono is worried about Troy spending time with Alberta because he has known Troy a long time and knows just how important and special Rose is to him and even using the fence metaphor to explain, "Rose wants to hold on to you all.She loves you." (pg.61). But despite the length of their friendship, Bono is still cautious around Troy because he looks up to him and Bono tells Troy, "I done learned a whole heap of things about life watching you." (pg.62)

One theme present in Act 2 is the theme of fences or barriers which is depicted at the end of scene 2 following the death of Alberta. While Rose begs Troy to return home on Friday instead of seeing Alberta, they get a call from the hospital saying Alberta has given birth to Troy's baby girl but Alberta has died in the process. In his quiet lament of Alberta's death, Troy speaks to death and says, "I'm gonna build me a fence around what belongs to me. And then I want you to stay on the other side. see?" (pg.77). Troy is telling death that he will make a fence to protect those he cares about, as well as to keep death out until it is his time.

One conflict present in Act 2 is the conflict of Man vs. Family as shown in the midst of scene 1 following Troy's confession. After Bono tries to convince Troy not to make a mistake and lose Rose, Troy confesses to seeing Alberta on the side each Friday. Troy explains to Rose, "I can just be a part of myself that I ain't never been." (Pg.69). This creates tension between them because Rose feels betrayed since she was able to put her dreams aside and stand by him for the past eighteen years.
