Like many older people who write their life stories, Ms. Bick found some peace in looking back. “Writing is painful because it brings back memories,” she said in a recent interview. But when she began writing, Ms. Bick said, she recognized “that there was this joyous little girl” whom she could finally “reclaim.” And she described “an awe that I survived some of the things I went through.”

When we want to travel an unfamiliar road, we always ask a person who has travelled the road before. The elderly have travelled the road of life and attained independence and flexibility to handle their responsibilities. We need to ask for their guidance on travelling down this road.

The seniors are the epitome of kindness and being humble. One of the essential life lessons from the elderly that is worth noting is that we should never judge other people since we do not know what they are going through. The elderly are good at empathizing with others in all kinds of situations. Kindness is another quality that the elderly use to make other people’s difficult days happy. So learn to share love from the elderly and put all your hatred aside.

Our world is fraught with jealousy and bitterness, and people compete with each other on social media. The elderly do not see these media as realities, and they have found humour and fun in real life. Enjoying the company of the elderly will help you put aside your jealousy and bitterness to enjoy the absolute joy and laughter of life. Have you ever noticed that the seniors laugh even though they do not have teeth? They are not paying attention to superficial issues that surround us. The elderly can laugh even when they are in the midst of problems and adversities. We should learn the hearty laughter of the elderly to enjoy real life.

Cultural Perspectives on Aging

With nearly 8 billion people living on the planet, there is plenty of room for interpretation regarding how people think about aging. Western cultures have traditionally been labeled as ageist societies that undervalue their older adult populations. Eastern cultures are recognized for their more accepting view of older adults, placing them on a pedestal of wisdom and respect.
The idea that eastern cultures treat older adults with more respect comes from the Confucian values that guide these cultures. Confucian values promote a positive view of aging, which encourages younger generations to treat older adults with respect, obedience, and care.
Western cultures tend to have more youth-centered societies that place value in young adults rather than older adults. This way of thinking stems from Protestant values that tie an individual’s worth to their ability to work and be an active member of society.

Aging is a phenomenon that humans have been intrigued by for millennia, stretching as far back as the days of Aristotle and Plato.
Plato, a Greek philosopher from 400 B.C., characterized aging and disease as two different phenomena. While Plato’s teachings tend to be slightly elitist, in his eyes, we all age. By living a healthy life, one can create harmony between the movement of the soul and body.
Aristotle, a student of Plato’s, thought that aging led to the deterioration of mental intellect. He did not make a distinction between aging and disease, as Plato did; instead, Aristotle proposed aging to be a natural disease that comes with a natural loss of intellect.
While aging piqued the interest of early philosophers, for years, the scientific community did not seem to care about aging. It was considered a part of the evolutionary process, and aging, from an evolutionary perspective, was nothing more than natural selection.

How Technology Changed the Society Over an Individual's Lifetime

Perhaps the most noticeable change is the rapid advancement of technology. Many individuals have witnessed the transition from analog to digital technologies, the rise of the internet, and the proliferation of smartphones. These changes have transformed how people communicate, work, and access information.
Modern technology could impact elderly care is in the development of smart homes and devices. Instead of having a robot handle daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning and shopping, an older adult could count on various devices in the home to take care of jobs that he or she can no longer do alone. For example, a smart refrigerator could sense when there is not enough food and order items from a local grocery store or supermarket. An app connected to a door lock system could make it easy for an elderly person to let in a family member or trusted caregiver without having to get up and open the door.

How often have you decided to do something and then thought about what other people might think about you? Worrying about other people’s thoughts has always ruined our talent and happiness. The elderly never worry about how others might decipher their decisions and have ever felt for themselves. Remember that it is never late to quit the habit of waiting for others’ approval in making your decisions. The elderly have always suggested that the less you care, you can have a happier life.

Too much sitting without movement can be a big risk for older people, particularly those that use wheelchairs, or experience activity intolerance. The exciting syncopation of this classic Dixieland tune, along with the repeated impetus to “march” in place make “When the Saints Go Marching In” a go-to to get some movement and energy going with a group. If we’re feeling especially boisterous, I might pass out hand drums or tambourines to take things up a notch and include upper-body motion as well as lower-body.
