There were people accusing others of working with the devil and being witches. They then had-unfair for today's standards- trials. With no real evidence except for girls saying they saw Bridget- the first dead-bewitching them, the hung Bridget and that began it all. About 20 people were killed during this time period. Most of them by hanging but one person, Giles Corey, by being crushed. In the document it states, "What are we to think of those persons who commenced and continued the accusations – the “afflicted children” and their associates?… It was perhaps their original design to gratify a love of notoriety or mischief by creating…excitement in their neighborhood…". This proves our point because it says that people just did that to create mischeif. Book". We believe from the other documents that from the other documents that they only did that because of greed. We believe that this person was falsely accusing this person because of something they did.

In the document it states,"Rebecca was from Topsfield, whose town
authorities had for years been harassing the Putnam family by
claiming that parts of their lands actually lay in Topsfield rather
than in Salem Village. And her husband Francis had been involved
during the 1670s in a protracted dispute with Nathaniel Putnam
(Ann’s father-in-law) over some mutually bounded acreage". This proves that she had some bad things that had happened to her. We also belive that the accusers accused her so they sould take back their land and they had excuses on why she might have done that. Like it says that the town authorities harssed the Putnam family. They could've said that since her family was being harrased so they tried to put attention off of them.

They just wanted attention but it got to be too much and 20 people were killed. There were no such thing as witches and there still aren't.
