https://padlet.com/rettasil2/1tmc46zul351 At present around 300 million tons of plastic are manufactured every year in order to make most of the objects we use in our daily lives: straws, plastic bags, bottles and other containers, packages, clothes, dishware and glasses, insulated cups, food wrap, toys among many other objects. When those objects are no longer used, they are disposed of and very little is actually recycled and reused. The rest is cast away in landfills, where it takes plastic around 500 years to disappear, or it is thrown in our natural environment such as waterways, rivers or seas, endangering both wildlife and human beings. Plastic pollution is contaminating our soil and water with its dangerous chemicals and it is impacting the marine life, the food chain and our overall health. It is believed that tiny plastic fibres have been found in our drinking water, both in tap and bottled water. Therefore, the health of animals, humans, waterways and oceans and our environment is at risk. Plastic pollution is the most visible example of the harm we are causing to our planet: from our local beaches to the remote poles, plastic has dominated the seas, invaded our oceans, killing wildlife. But this does not happen in a certain continent, to a certain country. It happens everywhere and without a global response by 2050 there would be more plastic in the sea than fish.
