1. Under "Resources" in our google classroom, I always have a slide presentation that shows all the student breakout rooms. The "Team A", "Team B" headers are links to the breakout rooms. ( I have attached this below)
2. I also have a google doc with the Breakout rooms listed on them. This way, I can just cut and paste the links into our Chat box for easy access for students.
3. Students collaborate on Biology and Chemistry questions. Maybe they have to come up with create questions in their group and post the questions to a Jamboard for example.
4. I ALWAYS GIVE THEM A TIME LIMIT and expect them back in the main meet in (for example) 10 minutes.
5. Sometimes I pop in and out of their breakout rooms to make sure they understand the assignment and are presenting and discussing with their peers.
6. Sometimes, if they will be posting to a Jamboard, I do not pop into their breakout rooms. I can tell they are accomplishing their work, because they are posting to a Jamboard and I can see this in real time.
7. Whatever they are working on together in their breakout rooms, I always ask them to type their names at the top of the Jamboard, or google doc, or slide. I only want the names of the students that are actually there in class during the breakout room activity. This helps with attendance too and weeds out the kids that might have their profile picture up, but are not really paying attention or engaging in class. I try to have 5-10 kids in a room. I mostly use these to have them share their work and progress and receive peer feedback.

- I would recommend using a few different devices (if possible) so that you can always be in every room. Even if you are shown to be muted and dark, this helps manage behavior and keeps them on track. They do not know if you are really present or not.

- I would like to learn how to use the actual Google Meets breakout rooms feature. I tried looking it up, and I do not see those options in our version of G. Meets.

The entire class can be working together in real time. If it is group work (usually 4 per group) I simply create multiple tabs in the jamboard. This is unnecessary in slide decks.
Unfortunately, although I have tried multiple times, I have had ZERO success in breakout rooms for Google Meets. The lag that it creates makes it an unbearable and unproductive learning environment.

I used breakout room for all my classes - Korean 1, Honors Biology, and AP Biology. I use breakout rooms daily except for Wednesdays. Note: AP biology classes does not use the break out room as often as other classes.

2. I have a designated computer for breakout rooms (iMac). I do not use that computer for anything else. I have four breakout rooms open daily and it remains open all day. I use another chromebook if the class is too big for another three rooms (i.e. 30 students in Korean1). I view all four rooms at the same time. See the picture.

Number of students depends on the assignment. I have had one student - for oral tests and up to six students for group work (same topic, same room).

3. Be sure to let the students know when to return to the main room, check attendance in breakout rooms, and leave the main room open so if student have questions, they can come in and ask.

4. Last breakout room session for honor biology class was to work on factors that affect photosynthetic rate. Here is a link to the Jam Session.

2. Basically I’ve created 4 types of breakout rooms based on the level of support the kids need. The slides below explain this in more detail.

3. I always ask kids which room they are going to choose before they enter. That way I can make sure the rooms are evenly split. If they’re not, I ask for volunteers to choose a different room.
