I convene a field trip module to Scotland, which runs annually in Term 2. The focus of the trip is sustainable business. I would be keen to use the GEIF to develop/enhance existing collaborations between our students and businesses on the ground in Scotland, potentially creating a new partnership and driving a novel output from the trip.

Ed Glücksman, Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Futures
(Business School - Penryn)

Grand Challenges had a partnership with the University of South Florida, whereby students from USF participated in Exeter Grand Challenges and Challenges Online during Covid. A bit more about this collaboration can be found on this page (which is a bit out of date, sorry!):

I am working towards creating a Global Classrooms in Health Care Education Programmes group with educators in Saudi Arabia, India and Malaysia (possibly Nigeria). This would involve sharing good practices on virtual exchange/global classroom activities, journal clubs, mentoring, and applying for grants for collaborative projects.

Higher education maths project with University of Monterrey in Mexico

Prof. Beatriz Isabel Gomez Garcia at the University of Monterrey Mexico, and I have both completed the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) training course in 2020. Following the COIL Partner Fair in the start of 2021, and realizing the alignment of their interests on improving higher education approaches, we met remotely on four occasions during the Spring of 2021 and designed a collaborative project on improving mathematics teaching at university level.

This course ran during the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. It was embedded within an existing module at the University of Monterrey named Fundamentals of Non-Formal Education. Dr Gomez and I delivered weekly lectures over zoom to students taking this module, and each collaborated with one subgroup as part of a research collaboration with students as co-researchers. By researching on how the various teaching techniques used for the various topics within mathematics are shaping the mathematical mindset, my subgroup looked into creating a guide on effective teaching approaches in higher education mathematics. Nowadays, students have high expectations from their education at university level, due to a rise in tuition fees in some countries, and a struggle in employment after they graduate. This lies in the expectation of better teaching styles, resources, as well as fair and well conducted assessments. In the produced 30-page guide, we described how various teaching approaches can be used to effectively teach abstract mathematics, computational mathematics, and programming.

I work with Global SEAS and an existing partner to provide a 1 week international business challenge for my BA International Business & Modern Languages students. These take place in Europe and are intended to develop a range of graduate skills and give students a shared inter-cultural experience. We have had very positive feedback from the students and this year we have included WP students from other programmes.
During the pandemic the GLE was delivered virtually so there is scope to work with the partner to develop online options. I will be seeing them next week so can discuss with them.
