"Inside each of us is a monster; inside each of us is a saint. The real question is which one we nurture the most, which one will smite the other."

This statement is so true, I say this because our thoughts are so powerful but they are not always shared. Sometimes we think things we want to do or say, but don’t say them because we know it is wrong. Feelings that we bottle up and hide away circle in are brain, they are memories even when we think we don’t remember. Tragedies, that cause pain or sadness, they all collect. To a certain extent when comparing our selves a “monster”, I’m not saying we all have intend to harm or kill. When compared to a “monster”, the statement is comparing us to the side that we hide or is scared to confront.

This statement is true. This statement is true because even some of the best people have bad parts of them, and vice versa. It also holds true because the only person that gets to decide who you really want to be in the end is yourself. In the excerpt Reiner decides to "feed" the side of him that turns against his brother to get the girl, so this is the side he slowly becomes. Another place you can see this is throughout history good people end up doing very bad things just because they make a few bad decisions. This statement matters to humans as a whole because a lot of people want to blame their decisions on others, yet they're the only ones that should be blamed. Overall people will become who they want to, whether that is good or bad.

This statement is true because no one out there is perfect and no one is completely evil. It depends on where you were raised and what kind of lifestyle you prefer. The people who surround you also take part in the type of person you become in the future. That's why there is a saying that states that what you are today is what you'll be tomorrow. If you surround yourself with positivity, you'll be more of a saint and if you surround yourself with negativity, you'll be more evil.

I agree with statement. All of us have some inner thoughts that are either bad or good. There is no one in the world that is one or the other(except Jesus). In The Storyteller Reiner is tasked with making sure his brother is safe. But at the end of the story he ends up beating him just to impress his peers. If you are raised to be a good person you will lean more towards the side of a saint but, if you are raised in an unhealthy environment you might lean more towards the side of monster. The phrase people make choices; choices make people is the perfect example of this. You can choose to be a good or bad person. You are not born evil or good it's all what you decide.

The quote's philosophy is correct because ever kid is born with potential, and as they grow up, who they become is strongly influenced by what they spend their time on, and the leaders around them who tell them what to do. An example of this is in the Storyteller when the main character is trained in the Hitler youth at the beginning when he stands up for his brother to keep him safe in the swimming pool incident(a saint) but later is quickly manipulated into hurting his brother in a fight because he is praised and rewarded for hurting others and blindly following orders. His training has the potential to escalate into him becoming an SS officer like the ones who commit unspeakable crimes later in the concentration camps, but he wasn't born that way.

This statement is true because no one is 100% perfect and no one is 100% is evil. There are many impacting factors that contribute to a person's character and their actions. Whichever side a person chooses to pursue, good or bad, will shine through in their actions and words. People make choices, and choices make people, and these choices can create either a positive or negative impact. When Reiner is told to hit his brother, he did it as he was told, but felt remorse for his actions. This shows his "inner saint" in how his morals were in the right place, but his actions were not.

This statement is true because every person commits actions that they will regret, that can be considered "monstrous." However, everyone also has good in them. The struggle isn't to become a good person, but instead to find the good inside you. Reiner illustrates this by following the youth club leaders and beating up his brother, even though it is wrong. Because Reiner knows this is wrong though, he feels remorse afterwards and he understands that he hurt his brother, as well as other people. I have also hit both sides of this statement in the sense that sometimes, I follow what my older sister does or I get caught up in being like everyone else and fitting in. You have to fight to do what you believe is right and what you believe should be done in order to be the "saint" inside of you.

This is a true statement because I believe we are all truly the same on the inside. We are all born the same, we are all a clean slate capable of doing anything with our lives but our upbringings make us branch off from one off from one another. We all feel and think the same way at birth so it is only natural to believe we are all capable of doing great good or great evil. The way we grow and adapt after we are born will determine who we will grow up to be and wether we become a saint, monster or something in between.

Like when we want to do something rebellious, we know that what we are doing is bad but we still do it anyways. Its the monster inside of us that makes us do the bad, rebellious things we do. This is an idea that was explored by philosophers during the enlightenment period. This means that even the most evil people we know were at once good. These people just made the choices that made them evil. In other words they nurtured the monster inside of them. Same goes for those who do good. We see people make good choices just as much. These people continued to nurture the saint that we all possess.

This statement is true because each person has a choice to do what they feel. In this case, the man that was in the short story found that his brashness and short temper were finally good for something. A part of him that was always stifled was actually going to be used and cherished within the Nazi party. He did not stifle his short temper, which blossomed into the evil within him. He was originally a good and protective brother that did not ever harm his family, but when asked to fight his brother and he took the first punch, the goodness inside of him went away. He was finally able to let go of the good and the more he hurt others the more the guilt went away. This could have happened to anyone who was gifted with strength and put on a pedestal. If someone is praised for what they do then its natural to not want to stop.

I support this statement, because everyone has the possibility of nurturing good values and morals and the chance to cause harm and negative influence upon others. For example in the passage, Reiner initially supported and cared for his brother by jumping into the pool before him to ease his fears. This shows how a person can fulfill their position as a caring and loving brother. However, this positive value can easily be manipulated into a bad one. For example in the text, Reiner became convinced of himself to believe that it was alright to injure his brother in order for him to succeed in the boxing fight. He was also pushed into this decision by peer pressure from others around him, like the girls next to the boxing ring. Thus, this shows how Reiner nurtured monstrous or negative values of harm into himself and continued to foster this belief despite having the choice to choose which values he wanted to endorse. Altogether, people have to choice to choose a side of values, based on outside influences.

We both have a monster and a saint inside of us. In the excerpt he was a good person and student with minor issues, causing fights to distract from his weaknesses in the classroom. When he was confronted after being groomed in the Hitler Youth and told to fight his little brother that his mother told him to protect, he disregarded his morals and fought him because he had to be "loyal" to his Fuhrer. He looks back on this situation and realizes that he shouldn't and wouldn't have done what he had if he wasn't being pushed into doing it unconsciously with the prior actions committed in the Hitler Youth Camp. Being around certain people and being in certain situations brings out parts of us that we may not have even known existed, we can't stop this from happening. It's just human nature, a grim realization that we all must face.

This statement is true because everyone always shows both their bad and good side. For example everyone feels an urge to do something they shouldn't and depending on whether or not the good side of you is stronger than the bad will determined if you go through with it. No one is a perfect, innocent person. Theres a little devil on everyones shoulder.

I agree with the protagonist in The Storyteller when he states

“Inside each of us is a monster; inside each of us is a saint. The real question is which one we nurture the most, which one will smite the other.”. I agree because we all have every possibility to choose who we want to be. Everyone chooses themselves how to act whether it be bad like the "monster" inside of us, or it be good like the "saint" inside of us. This relates to the theme of people make choices, choices make people. If you choose to nurture the monster side or the saint side, it will have different outcomes. It all depends on what you are feeling and who/what you are surrounded by that affects which you lean to.

The statement "Inside each us is a monster, inside each of us is a saint. The real questions is which one we nurture the most,, which one will smite the other" is a true. No one is born hateful, it who and what they are surrounded by. These factors contribute to what side of you you support. In the storyteller the narrator uses is strength to stand up for his little brother who isn’t as develop as he is. At the end of the passage though, he uses his strength to gain popularity and it fights people because he gets, in his mind, positive attention from it. You have that decision to be light the fuse to your light or dark side. No one can make the decision for you, but they and your environment can contribute to which one you spark.

This statement is true to me personally. Many people have good and bad in them. The English, during the time when they killed off all the native Americans, helped them before they became greedy. Greed was the main element that was highlighted when they nurtured the weed of greed inside them. History tends to repeat itself over and over again when people make bad choices. Personally I am not always a good person, and I say things that aren't always saint worthy. It is just one of the beasts inside me. I try my best to keep it from festering into a bigger issue. In the storyteller he had a monster of bullying inside him, but he decided to help his brother out, and nurture the soft side of himself until he was peer pressured into letting in to the temptations of evil.

I believe this statement to be true because nobody is born pure good or pure evil its based on how were raised.I believe that even the nicest of people sometimes show the bad side that is in each person even if they are normally nice and calm.People tend to choose which side to take on normally people choose their good side and some people choose to embrace their bad side but even though they seem good they have a monster within them that they try not to show.

I completely agree with this statement 100%. There are times where I do something and then after I do it I realize it's a terrible thing to do. There are other times when I do extremely good things for other people. It just depends ultimately what type of person that you decide you want to be. People make choices; choices make people.

I agree with this statement. While I don’t believe people can me evil, they can be extremely harmful. One person could have been abused from day one like some serial killers were, while the another person could be the best, kindest person. What happened? What went wrong? It’s most likely the way they were raised. Most serial killers are raised in abusive households, while good people are raised in caring, loving households. Most of my friends are raised, to the best of my knowledge, by loving parents. Most people that have been harmful to me, haven’t been given attention to by their parents. I haven’t fact checked this though, I’m going off of memory.
