En el 2006 Plutón dejó de ser considerado un planeta porque la Unión Astronómica Internacional (V.A.I.). adopta una definición de planeta que requiere que un cuerpo celeste limpie su órbita de otros objetos, orbitar alrededor de un Sol y tener suficiente masa para adoptar una forma esférica. Plutón no cumple estas condiciones por lo tanto no puede ser considerado planeta.
