I have learned so many things from the lecture thus far and want to discuss some of the experiences I had in my life. As I read the book of Johnson (Culture-Symbols, Ideas, and the Stuff) a couple of days ago, I realized that the human belief system is too much important and it also affects the culture in our society. Once I was thinking and holding the stuff of the United States so wrong, especially when my relatives told me about their experiences and how they struggled living in the other country dealing with unfamiliar cultures and norms, I never understood them and assumed that they lied to me. In the book, we read that the Beliefs: " I'll See It when I Believe It" . I was never convinced that life in the United State was hard for people like my uncle in their times. They work so much, and I can only understand when I see them. I was like "I'll believe when I see it" and it points me that my assumption was so wrong. As I was growing up in Asia, when we meet someone, the way we greet each other is different. We usually bow our heads a little bit and shake hands politely but, in the US, we greet each other in a unique way. Therefore, I slowly understand the culture and identity of the US and I try to adapt with them. I only understand when I see them.
