I feel that perspective is the most appropriate global concept for this photo by David LaChapelle since the photo taken is all about the way we look at it and infer the right message from it. This non-literary text gives us a unique perspective on life. Interpreting this image needed perspective since it conveys a deeper meaning just with visual elements and no words.

As I analysed the poem 'Still I Rise', I would relate this poem with the global concept 'identity' since the poet expresses herself and emphasises the need for freedom for the African Americans. This shows us the importance that the poet gives for herself and how she uses words to express herself. By analysing this text, I am really analysing who we are and what we want to become - from the author's perspective.

This poem is about love and I could connect it with the poem 'Alone' by the same poet. It resonates similar themes.

Global Issue - Femininity

Femininity is often linked to qualities like kindness, nurturing, and empathy. Society typically expects women to embody these traits (being demure), which influences their roles in family, workplaces, and communities. These ideas about femininity differ widely across cultures but often shape how women are perceived and how they perceive themselves.

Over time, the understanding of femininity is changing, especially as women take up more roles in the society. This change questions old stereotypes and shows that femininity can include strength, independence, and ambition. However, I think that there’s still pressure for women to meet traditional expectations, which can make them feel restricted or judged when they don’t fit this mould.

I’ve noticed how society’s expectations around femininity can affect confidence and choices. In some cases, I’ve seen girls or women being held back from certain activities just because they’re “not feminine enough.” Understanding femininity as a mix of qualities, instead of just soft traits, has helped me appreciate different strengths and feel more comfortable with unique expressions of identity.

Global Issue - Masculinity

Masculinity is traditionally associated with strength, assertiveness, and control. Society often encourages men to be tough and to avoid showing vulnerability. These traits can shape how men are expected to act in family settings, social groups, and the workplace, often putting pressure on them to meet a specific standard.

Today, ideas around masculinity are evolving, allowing men to express qualities like empathy and openness. Movements that challenge “toxic masculinity” promote mental health and show that it’s okay for men to be expressive and vulnerable. This is important in breaking down confined definitions of masculinity and promoting healthier expressions of identity.

Seeing friends and family members deal with the pressure of traditional masculinity has shown me how limiting these expectations can be. Many men feel they can’t openly talk about their feelings, which impacts their mental health. The stereotype of being strong always is to be a man is absolutely ridiculous. Learning about these issues has changed how I view masculinity and encouraged me to value openness and empathy in everyone, regardless of gender.

Beauty standards are powerful social constructs that vary across cultures and influence people’s self-image, self-esteem, and social acceptance. These standards are often promoted by media and celebrities and have a profound impact on individuals and society. This falls under the field of inquiry 'Beliefs, Values and Education'. Globalisation has also contributed to the trend of specific beauty standards, making some people feel pressured to meet standards that may not be possible to achieve naturally.

My perspective on this issue is that movements promoting beauty diversity challenge the “one-size-fits-all” approach to beauty, encouraging people to appreciate different appearances. This change in viewing beauty is crucial for mental health and self-acceptance, as it helps people feel valued beyond their looks.

Seeing how beauty standards affect people in my age group has made me question these standards. Embracing beauty as diverse and personal has helped me focus more on who 'I' am or who a person is individually instead of comparisons.

Colonialism was when powerful countries took control of other regions, often exploiting them for resources and imposing foreign cultures, languages, and values. This control disrupted local cultures, economies, and identities. The legacy of colonialism remains today, as many previous colonies face economic challenges and work to reclaim lost traditions and heritage for example my own nation- India.

The impact of colonialism continues to influence international relations and cultural identity. Many former colonies work to preserve and reclaim their heritage, reminding us of the importance of respecting diverse histories and cultures.

Learning about colonialism has made me value cultural diversity and understand why history shapes identity so deeply. I’ve come to see how essential it is to respect and preserve cultural heritage, knowing how much was lost and the importance of honoring that past.

Looking at the field of inquiry 'Culture, Identity, and Community', Racism is one of the most important global issue that exists in the world. Racism is discrimination based on race, leading to social exclusion and inequality. It affects education, job opportunities, and even access to resources, often holding back marginalised groups and causing social divisions without any practical reason.

Learning about movements like Black Lives Matter has shown me how important it is to fight racial discrimination. Education and awareness play key roles in building a fairer society, where everyone has equal opportunities and respect.

Understanding the impact of racism has made me more aware of the importance of fairness and empathy.

Me and my team were asked to create a creative presentation on the analysis of chapter 7 and 8 while focusing on the idea 'Gogol vs Nikhil'. We have taken up a video format, like a short film and recorded a 4 minute video where Gogol has a conversation with Nikhil. This representation is unique and we did this within a very short span of time, therefore I would say that I have use time management skills and organisational skills while being a creative communicator.

This activity made us explore our creative thinking skills since we had to engage the audience in various different ways. I had used collaborative skills since it was a collaborative effort. I enjoyed this experience a lot since Squid Game is something that is on the trend nowadays and I got to convey my readings and analysis in a fun manner.

Me and my friends enacted the Macbeth play all by ourselves with the guidance of our facilitator. We roughly took two weeks to prepare for the play right from script writing and dialogues, prop creation, memorising dialogues to the presentation of our play. We also added our creative element, which was a rap battle climax between Macbeth and Macduff. I played the role of Lady Macbeth, and I enjoyed this experience as this was a character which was completely new for me. I was out of my comfort zone while taking up this character and I learnt a lot of new aspects of analysing this play. Enacting out my soliloquy was my favourite memory of this beautiful journey because this was something new for me. Throughout the play, from starting to end, I have enhanced my critical thinking, organisation, and collaboration skills. I am proud to say that I have reflected upon the learner profile 'Risk Taker' while taking up a completely different role, a villainous and manipulative character that I have never tried before.

I have worked on my collaboration skills especially while working on this play, since we had to collectively work on our script and dialogues and co-ordinate with each other during the play for the slides in the background, lighting management, background music and on stage performance, if one of us faced a difficulty, we managed to help each other and fill in the spot at the right time.

I have also enhanced my critical thinking skills because, while writing my own dialogues and memorising the act for my soliloquy, I learnt different ways to analyse Shakespeare. I was able to identify the characterisation that was applied for each character, therefore reflecting upon my critical thinking skills.

I was also being organised because it was a hassle to coordinate and cooperate with all the 9 members as each of us had different roles and the climax (rap battle) was entirely created by my fellow classmates from scratch.

I feel that enacting the Macbeth play connects the most with Identity because taking on a complex role like Lady Macbeth pushed me to explore different facets of human nature and understand perspectives vastly different from my own. Stepping into her manipulative and ambitious character helped me question and reflect on how identity can be shaped by choices, desires, and power. This role challenged my own sense of self and allowed me to grow through that discomfort.

I feel that enacting the Macbeth play connects the most with the learner profile Risk-Taker because taking up the role of Lady Macbeth was completely outside my comfort zone. Portraying a villainous and manipulative character required me to step into an unfamiliar mindset and express emotions I had never explored before. It was a bold challenge to memorise intense dialogues, perform a dramatic soliloquy. Embracing this experience helped me grow as a performer and boosted my confidence in taking on new and difficult roles.

AOE: Readers, Writers and Text

This activity explores the dynamic relationship between the original text of Macbeth, us as performers (readers and interpreters), and our audience. Through scriptwriting, embodying complex characters, and creatively adapting the climax into a rap battle, we engaged deeply with the intentions of the writer while also shaping the text to reflect our own voices. This performance highlighted how meaning is constructed and interpreted differently depending on who engages with the text, making us aware of our role in shaping how literature is experienced and understood.
