The world would not be the same place without Dr. Salk's decision to work in medical science instead of becoming a lawyer! This is an amazing miracle, because Dr. Salk cured one of the world's deadliest diseases, Polio! This crippling disorder affects a person's muscles, could paralyze a person or kill them!

Polio is an airborne virus, which means you could get the disease by breathing in the same air as an infected person, or swimming in a pool with an infected person! Yikes!

Polio was common in children, and was deadly. Fortunately, Dr. Salk was smart enough and dedicated his life to finding a cure, and he did! In just ten short years, the number of cases worldwide went down from millions to just thousands because of his vaccine! Nowadays, polio is barely found anywhere in the world thanks to Dr. Salk's vaccine!
