T-S:

The Proudest Blue reminds me of when I saw some people wearing hijabs getting bullied and how they have a hard life at school and in adulthood. Asiya is bullied because she wears a hijab, this mainly happens because people don’t know about her culture.

T-T:

This text reminds me of books and movies where the message is to believe in yourself and be who you are. They always have a hard life in the beginning and take in all the bad messages. Later in the text/movie they learn to drop those messages and be themselves. They don’t care about the bad messages about thier culture. E.g. Suri’s Wall because the little kids were scared from Suri and bullied her because she was different like Asiya is bullied for wearing a hijab.

T-W:

This text reminds me of cyber bullying because it relates to bulliying. Usually cyber bullying is because of someone’s culture like Asiya is bullied of her culture wearing hijabs as soon as they get into high school.

This message of "unity, not hate" is a common theme between both books.

I made a text-to-self connection when I read the words, "I need to give her another hug. Finding him, and seeing that he was okay, made me feel safe and loved when I was having a hard day.

I made a text-to-world connection when I read the words "someone laughs...pointing at Asiya". It made me think about racism, and how it is still common. I feel sad and angry that many Australians still hold racist views. At the same time, I am hopeful because I believe younger generations are more accepting of differences and recognise it is a strength.

T-T-T
This book reminds me about the book “when we say Black Lives Matter.” Because all the people in that book got discriminated just like the proudest blue. The girl with the hijab got bullied by other year 7 people. The year 7 said “I’m going to take that table cloth off your head.” This made me think if this is happening right now and if people are getting bullied this really needs to stop.

T-T-W
This connection also connects to my T-T-T connection because people get discriminated or hurt by people because they are wearing hijabs. This reminds me of when people were protesting for black people and they didn’t get to do the same thing. Like needing to go to the tennis court only when there is no one there. This makes me feel embarrassed for the people who did this and made black people have not got the same right back then.

T-T-S
My text to self connection is that a lot of people at school were hijabs. This happened through my life at school. During year 1 and 2 and finally now. I think it is great that they were hijabs because it’s apart of there family culture. What I don’t get about their hijabs is, why do they hide their hair with them? Another question it that, does it give good luck to the people who wear them and what is the history with the hijabs?

It connected to each other because in the common wealth book, it persuaded everyone to change some things and respect black people better. They just got treated differently because of their skin and religion.
The hurtful words, Asiya didn’t listen to them, she didn’t care about those words and ran away. It tells you not to keep those rude words. Asiya was teased because of her hijab. Lots of people are treated badly because of their skin and religion and this needs to stop.

T-T-W
In this book, it made me feel really angry that people are just respected differently just because of their religion or skin, like the aboriginals along time ago, they were killed for no reason and why should that happen? In this sentence “ I’m going to pull that table cloth off your head “ shows that there is still discrimination and bullying. This makes me feel angry because some people still bully people that look different from others.

TTS :This quote “ My first day hijab is going to be blue to “ shows that the sister wants to copy her big sister because she loves her .
The proudest blue connections T-W On page 10 of The Proudest Blue the boy that was laughing bc Asiya was wearing a hijab reminds me of the ‘BLM’ (Black lives matter) protest when the boy was laughing about racism. T-S On page 5 and 6 the two sisters started a new term of school and it reminds me of me starting a new term of school like this year.T-T This book reminds me of a book based on Rosa parks as in this book it talks about racism and so does the Rosa parks book.

Asiya’s hijab is like the sky on a sunny day. The sky isn’t a whisper. It’s always there, special and normal.”.

T-T-W

This book reminds me of how people treat others because of their differences and the racism included in this world.

The Proudest Blue
T-S
The part where Faiza pretends to be a princess reminds me of my own childhood because when she draws herself and her sister as princesses having a picnic I can remember myself also drawing myself as royalty.
T-T
This book reminds me of the book Wonder(even though I’ve never read it) as by judging by the title I can conclude that both texts include children who are singled out by their looks. The boy in Wonder is judged by his only eye and Isaya has a hijab.
T-W
This book reminds me of all the racist people in the world who discriminate other people with religious beliefs. One of those racist people I can think of is Hitler as he killed the (Jews I think) because of their beliefs. I have never met anyone like this (and I’m glad I haven’t) in real life but I have heard of them.
