Chair Massage is not just a back rub, it is a bespoke therapy focusing on the neck, back, and shoulders. Helping to release tension, alleviate pain, improve flexibility and posture. Most headaches start with tension which is built up in the shoulder areas, by releasing this tension you can help realign your muscles, which can lead you to feeling refreshed and rebalanced.

No oils are used and no clothing is removed making this a practical solution that helps counteract muscular aches / strains, head fog, stiff neck, fatigue and stress.

A combination of deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger points and stretching techniques, are all used to design your individual session.

“Juliet was appointed to the Urology cancer nursing team as the Macmillan support worker in July 2024. Her role involves supporting patients and the nursing team within the urological cancers department. One of her major inputs is in inspiring the nursing team by her knowledge around IT and her creative ideas on developing new ways of working which improve the day to day lives for the specialist nurses. This allows the specialist nurses to spend more time supporting patients with complex needs. She is polite and compassionate and her customer services skills are exemplary to the whole team. Juliet is proactive in helping the whole of urology oncology team especially in ensuring that cancer patients have all the appropriate tests prior to their appointment with the oncologist which avoids wasted appointment time for both patient and consultant. We talked to one of our colleagues in the community to get their insight and perspective.

1. What was your previous work experience prior to becoming a healthcare support worker?

I was a clinic co-ordinator then I worked in phlebotomy for 4 years. I did my HCSW training 2012 and I started as a HCSW in 2016 in the trust.

2. Where do you work in the community?

I work in a specialist service in the community for Lymphedema

3. What are the main duties of your role?

Making the patients feel welcome/comfortable when they come to the clinic. I help the nursing team caring for the patients by removing their bandages, washing their legs, ordering stock and completing stock checks. I also perform wound care and sign post to the nurse in charge if the need arises. I mostly work on my own.

4. What does a typical day at work look like for you? 

This could be in the clinic or visiting patients at home. This could either be planned work or because a patient had called needing a visit as their bandages had become loose. I would visit and remove the bandages.

5. What do you find most challenging in your role?

Non-compliance of patients. Going somewhere unknown to visit a patient at home can also be challenging, as well as not being sure about what to expect when you get there.

6. What do you enjoy most doing in your role?

The patient care aspect of it. Being able to work on my own and being supported by my team helps build my confidence.

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff, ensuring a smooth patient journey from admission to discharge. Responsibilities include greeting and directing patients, managing calls and enquiries, booking patients in and out on the Care Records Service (CRS), coordinating appointments, and supporting clinicians and nursing staff with essential administrative tasks. This is a key role in maintaining efficient ward operations and delivering an excellent patient experience.

Main duties of the job

You will have excellent communication skills, enjoy working in a busy environment and have the ability to prioritise your workload with minimum supervision. Clerical, administrative and good computer skills are essential. Previous experience of working with the public in a hospital setting is desirable.

All arriving inpatients need a handbook or there should be one by the bedside for family / visitors; not just placed in wall holders.

It is important that staff read the handbook to answer patient questions consistently. It contains critical information, such as:

Updating families

• Nominate one person to update

• Ring for updates after lunch

Discharge

• No right to remain once you no longer need medical care

• Discharge preparation begins from day 1

• Community care directories and key numbers

Job overview

The post holder will be the point of contact for all administrative issues relating to patients’ pathway of care. The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will provide support in the proactive management of the patient pathway from referral to discharge,  ensuring the entire pathway is managed smoothly.

The post holder will ensure high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focussed and knowledgeable point of contact. 

Main duties of the job

• Process and log all referrals in line with Trust Access Policy and specialty SOPs.

• Schedule new and follow up appointments with the most appropriate clinician, ensuring that capacity is proactively and efficiently used, escalating issues as required to the line manager.

• Ensure that any diagnostics and investigations that are required as part of the patient pathway have been requested, including those carried out at other Trusts.

• Assist in the coordination of appointments and procedures at other hospitals and organisations, where required.

• Ensure clinic outcomes are recorded accurately on Trust Electronic patient record system (CRS), including those for off site clinics.

• Use the Trust’s medical transcription system and ensure that letters are processed in accordance with SOPs

• Liaise with patient records staff, ward clerks and other organisations to ensure all medical notes, referral letters, results and discharge summaries are available for outpatient appointments and consultations, delegating work to other members of the team

• Support in recognising when patients are on cancer pathways and, liaise with Cancer Services MDT co-ordinators to ensure patients are handed over appropriately.
