Remake of Emergency Scene by Mandy Reynolds

Upload an image of an emergency scene. Identify things in the image that indicate an emergency. What senses might be stimulated by the scene? (What could you feel on you skin? Is there anything you may taste in that situation? What could you smell if you were on that scene? What things might you hear? Sirens?) What actions might you take if you were the first responder, responding to the scene? BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME!

A Car Wreck

I think some senses I would feel is definitely hearing the wreck and noticing where the sound is coming from. Hearing can be very strong for sensing where something is located, and that brings me to sight sensing, like you have to see the wreck to know how bad it is if you couldn't already tell by just hearing the wreck. Maybe I could smell gasoline, which could lead to a car catching on fire. There are many senses you can have while trying to evaluate a car accident. The actions I would take would definitely be calling 911 and trying to stay as calm as I can. It's important to stay calm so the dispatcher can understand you and get the information they need to come and help the people involved in the car wreck. Taking action on things like this could be truly life-saving, and it's important that you can take the time and understand how to handle yourself and others in situations like these.

You’d notice the crumpled car, shattered windshield, bent metal, and the tree pressed into the front of the vehicle. The contrast between the damaged car and the normal looking street and buildings stands out. There might be the sound of traffic passing by, car engines, horns, or sirens nearby. You could also imagine quieter sounds like glass pieces settling or wind moving through the broken parts. A sharp smell of fuel, oil, or burnt rubber could be in the air, mixed with grass and trees from the roadside. If you were close, you might feel rough, jagged edges of metal or glass, the cool surface of the car, or the uneven ground and grass underfoot. Even without physical contact, the scene can trigger feelings like shock, concern, or tension because it clearly shows a serious accident. If I was a first responder I would make the scene safe, check for injured people, call for backup, gather basic information

The things in the image that indicate an emergency is the 2 cars that hit head on, and both cars are crushed at the front. You may feel nervous or scared cause you may not know what to do. You may also smell gas or see smoke from the engine. You might hear sirens or maybe the radio is still on. Actions you may take are calling for help, then probably go see if you can get anyone out of their car.

The emergency in this image is that the man is choking. His hands covering his throat, exasperated face, and struggling postion sugguest that this is an emergency. Your skin would most likely feel numb or have goosebumps due to the adreneline while in an emergency, it is also common to be in shock when something serious is happening. After calling 911, you would hear sirens coming in the distance, choking, and hard and struggling breaths. The smell would not be the first thing you notice, considering it is not one of the senses that is really highlighted in this emergency. You may smell the breath of the person choking as they struggle to breathe, and the food or object that led them to this position. If I were the first responder responding to the scene, it would be very important to get there as quickly as possible, as it is a very time-sensitive issue. After arriving, I would perform the Heimlich if the patient is responsive; if not, the first thing I would check is the pulse.

In this car accident, the car had rolled over and pinned the driver in the car. The driver is unconscious and is not responding. Some senses that are used would be sight, hearing, and touch. For sight, you would see the car and the driver in trouble. Hearing would be used by hearing cries and hearing the commotion the accident had caused. Touch would be used by trying to help the situation and help the injured victim. If I was the first responder I would be rushing to the scene to help the victim. I would see what's needed to be done such as getting the victim out of the car and help revive them.

The things that are going through my head would be calling 911, making sure the person is okay, and checking the pulse. Also, keeping them alert and making sure help is on their way. If the car starts catching on fire, you need to move the person far away from the car. I could smell smoke and hear lots of people screaming. When I saw the smoke i was just making sure people were out of the way just in case it blew up. Then, when the emergency people arrived, I heard all the sirens. If the person in the wreck has a cut, you need to try to stop the bleeding. Another sense I would feel is fear.

The man could be stumbling if he's walking, and his speech would be slurred and unable to understand. On the scene of a stroke, you could smell the breath of the man; he would be breathing heavier and spitting. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should act immediately because if not, every minute counts to brain damage. You should make sure that he is upright and talk to him to refresh his mind so that he doesnt loose to muvh memory until he is in the hospital getting medication and IVs.

A place getting robbed would be very scaryto witness and especially if it were you. Whatwould help me indicate a robbery would be someone trying to hide their identity by having their face covered, or the person having someone else at gunpoint which is a very dangerous situation if you dont act fast. Your first sense would be to run or maybe even scream but what would be more important is to remain calm and know your surroundings. You might hear screams maybe from the person being held at gunpoint or from the robber maybe demanding money. At a point you might even hear gunshots but must remember to remain as calm as possible. If i were to be the emergency responder i would give as many tips as possible to remain calm and quiet and try to know surroundings. Is there another shooter? where is the closest exit? How long has it been? Maybe even trying to comfort the person on the scene would be helpful and even save their life just by maybe distracting them.

In the accident you can see a damaged bicycle with people laying on the road. You might notice blood on clothing or the pavement and they may have felt grit,or dirt from the roadway and possibly road rash. You might see concerned people on the side coming to help or possibly ambulance sirens. You may also hear groaning or crying from the injured cyclists. What i would do to help is make sure no cars are going to come through and injure them more, i would call for additional help, i would try to keep them calm and control their injuries.

I think your first response to seeing someone on the floor, even without the pills being there. would be to check if they're still breathing, then call 911 and tell them what is happening and what you are seeing, and if you can do anything to help the person in any way that you can. Giving them naloxone can reverse the overdose if they're not responding, then still give them another dose of naloxone if safe to, if that doesn't work. Then try to keep them up so they don't choke, and wait until the ambulance comes to help.
