A right is something that you have to have. It is essential to our Declaration of Independence without rights there would still be slavery, we wouldn't have a freedom of speech, and we probably wouldn't even have the United States. A right is like something that has to do with the legal government. You have to follow rights and if you don't sometimes you can be punished.

A privilege is something that you earn. Maybe even something that you don't deserve but you still get it. For example getting to go to school is a privilege. A privilege is something that select few get like in north-eastern Africa most kids can't go to school. Getting to ride the bus to school or the city bus anywhere. In some places you have to walk every and almost anywhere you want to go.

The difference between a right and a privilege is that rights can't necessarily be taken away but privileges can. You have to have rights to keep our government and/or country under control without rights everyone would be going crazy and it would just be horrible. Without privileges you sometimes learn your lesson. Some privileges are taken when you are doing something wrong or when you're getting punished. There is a big difference because you need rights to function correctly and have freedom but you don't have to have privileges, privileges are basically just to reward people for doing the right things and sometimes when your country has a lot of money.
