"We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep... To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts. Every man is tasked to make his life, even in its details, worthy of the contemplation of his most elevated and critical hour. If we refused, or rather used up, such paltry information as we get, the oracles would distinctly inform us how this might be done."
-Henry David Thoreau

(Note: captions are in the "captions "section right under the image in grey for all of question 1)

"We should go forth on the shortest walk, perchance, in the spirit of undying adventure, never to return, prepared to send back our embalmed hearts only as relics to our desolate kingdoms. If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child and friends, and never see them again—if you have paid your debts, and made your will, and settled all your affairs, and are a free man—then you are ready for a walk.To come down to my own experience, my companion and I, for I sometimes have a companion, take pleasure in fancying ourselves knights of a new, or rather an old"
-Ariana Huffington

The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and the heart of the child.

"The eye is the best of artists. By the mutual action of its structure and of the laws of light, perspective is produced, which integrates every mass of objects... And as the eye is the best composer, so light is the first of painters. There is no object so foul that intense light will not make beautiful. And the stimulus it affords to the sense, and a sort of infinitude which it hath, like space and time, make all matter gay. Even the corpse has its own beauty."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater.

Whiteman's poem although short being 10 lines is a very philosophical piece of literature as it discusses the purpose of human life. The answer to this question of life, Whiteman states that the purpose of life is to create one's "own verse," essentiality meaning to create one own legacy before dying. Whiteman's philosophy for a person making one's "own verse" as their goal is simple, being because a person is able to do so, they should do so. If one does not make their own verse, however, Whiteman is concerned that the person's life would fade away alongside the death of the other masses. Overall, I find this poem to be very strong and correct in answering what the goal of life should be as I also believe that everyone should create their own legacy before dying.

I love to help others and see others smiling, so for one of the verses, I vow to make thousands of people smile. Alongside helping people smile, I also wish to create a large and prosperous family, having many offsprings that have diverse passions and occupations in life. Keeping the memories of my life around and passing them on to the next generation and afterwords, as to me the pinnacle of success in life is the ability to create bonds with others that last forever, upholding one's name even after death.

Thesis: Transcendentalism teaches people to model themselves after nature by repeating the importance of going out into nature and imitating nature’s course and actions in order to become self-reliant individuals who is able think on his own with his own free will, and in turn, is able to fully and positively contribute to society by leading into a better sense of self and community within society

Key Quote:
-"Nature is seen in many ways from such a large aspect in nature as light itself or in small mundane objects like a kernel of corn, either way nature provides humans with great lessons to become happier and more free and self-reliant with themselves."
-"Self-reliance is very powerful, and should be imported more in society by allowing the lessons nature taught humans to be more extensively practiced in modern day society, which would allow people to become kinder and more relaxed with each other and connect with the world as a whole everyday."
- "This level of self reliance and independence to follow one’s own path makes a person stronger mentally as they both become more confident with themselves and their life while also enjoying every second of their lives as they are following their own path and doing what they love in life
The visual connects to transcendentalism as it demonstrates one of the key ideals of transcendentalism, individualism as the person is meditating and admiring nature by himself, he is beginning to transcend time and space and unlock inner peace within himself."
