Hello, my name is Kobe O'Neal G. Ogang, a 2nd-year EMC student in section A223. In my Padlet, I will share my interests in Philippine Pop Culture. To start off, I'd like to say that I don't really follow up to the recent trends that most people do nowadays so I am pretty close-minded or have limited knowledge when it comes to these aspects. However, that does not mean I have a few Philippine Pop Culture interests that I'd like to do or see. As a person who likes things vintage and classic, I love the fact that fiestas and festivals are still considered a pop culture nowadays, it truly shows how we still respect our tradition and culture no matter the generation. Another one I like is food, Filipino cuisine to be exact, I believe it's still a pop culture because culinary traditions are still celebrated and appreciated. Next are OPMs, I like the band called "Eraserheads" and their songs are still played in karaoke's and parties to this very day. I'm a sporty guy, and basketball is a beloved sport in Philippine pop culture, because it is one of the most common sports played by almost all Filipinos even to this day. Lastly, and this is coming from most of my friends and classmates, talks and interests about sports cars and racecars have been inside of the radar lately, so I believe it's a new pop culture, however, I'm more of an off-road vehicle type of guy.

Festivals have been around for years now and it's no surprise on why it's still considered a Pop Culture. People love it, people love the country, and the only way to make our ancestors proud and show respect is to keep their traditions and cultures alive. That is why I love festivals, they are so lively and colorful, it's always fun when you're watching these events personally. The lively atmosphere and the sense of togetherness always remind me of the beauty in preserving our traditions and cultures, making them an unforgettable celebration of our shared heritage.

Analysis on how this Pop Culture creates change

Festivals are important to Philippine pop culture and have the ability to change a number of aspects of society. Let me start this analysis with using the Carnival Theory. This theory states that carnivals and celebratory gatherings serve as transitory outlets for norm subversion, a challenge to existing authority, and a celebration of collective spirit. This theory definitely connects to the context of Philippine festivals. Festivals provide an opportunity to question existing norms and promote a feeling of inclusiveness and togetherness. These celebrations are known for their showcases of costumes, music, dance and street performances. They encourage people from different backgrounds to unite and revel in the festivities even with their differences. This emphasis on inclusivity fosters harmony and empathy, among diverse groups leading to positive societal transformations by dismantling barriers and biases.

Festivals also offer a platform, for celebrating diversity and safeguarding traditions. The lively and captivating celebrations showcase the beauty of Filipino culture embracing both customs and colonial influences. This expression of culture plays a role, in countering homogeneity and nurturing the preservation of our heritage fostering a deep sense of identity and pride. Festivals also frequently feature reenactments, which work as catalysts for good change by encouraging solidarity within the country and a sense of shared memory among its citizens. That sums up all of my analysis and understanding of this specific pop culture, through festivals, we not only celebrate our past but also pave the way for a brighter, culturally rich future, where the old and the new harmoniously coexist and thrive.
