A Theme about the Poem, The Kid In The Back Of The Class:

A Theme is that it is hard to be a new different kid in school. An example of this in the poem is when all the kids make fun of him for how he dresses. In the text it states, “Him feeling miserable was the children's desire they most enjoyed teasing him of his attire. From the clothing he would wear
to the weird styles of his hair.” This shows the theme because he is getting teased because he is different, and getting teased is hard.

Is that even when things seem impossible, never give up. An example of this theme is when Francisco after not understanding his teacher still tried and in the end of the story he spoke English. In the text he states, “The more I tried I still could not understand.” Later, the text states, “It yours.” when he gives Curtis his painting. This shows the theme because even though he didn’t understand he still tried and succeeded.

Author Technique of Symbolism and Character Dialogue

In the text, “Inside Out” the author Francisco Jiménez shows the theme through the Techniques of Symbolism and Character Dialogue. The author uses Symbolism around the catapiller. It Symbolizes the theme by showing how people can grow and get more experienced and finally accomplish something or not feel afraid. An example of this using character dialogue is when Francisco speaks a sentences in English and when people stop teasing him after he gets a blue ribbon. In the text it states, “It’s yours.” handing the blue ribbon drawing to Curtis(who wrestled him). This clearly shows the theme because he accomplished learning a new language and fitting in with everyone else just like a butterfly does with his fellow fire flies

Author Technique of Character Thinking and Character Feeling

In the poem, the kid in the back of the Class, the author Nick shows the theme by using the techniques of character thinking and feeling. An example of character thinking is, the poem states “As the children called him names the young man hid his face in great shame. What was he to do when it was one vs. all? Cause he knew what they'd do when they found him in the hall. An example of character feeling is when in the poem it states, “Him feeling miserable was the children's desire they most enjoyed teasing him of his attire. From the clothing he would wear to the weird styles of his hair. This shows the theme because getting when you feel and think you are getting teased, you normally are and that is a example of how it is hard to be a new and different kid.

Author Technique of Character actions

In both the text and the poem both authors use the same strategy of Character Actions to develop the theme. An example of this in “Inside Out” is. when Francisco speaks English for the first time after having trouble. He said, “Look, Look!” This shows the theme because at first he had trouble understanding but after trying again he succeeded and spoke. An example of character actions from the poem is when in the poem it states, “The kids pointed and the kids laughed at the young man that sat in the back of the class. The one with his head down to conceal his lost frown and the one with clothes like nobody else.” This action shows the theme because he is concealing his face because he is embarrassed about being teased about being new and different kid.

The author’s point of view in the text “Inside Out” by Francisco Jiménez is that it’s okay to be new and different. He shows this through Character thinking. For example, in the text it says, “Since I didn’t understand I could draw whatever I wanted. One of mine got tacked on a he wall.” This shows the author’s point of view because he is new and different by not understanding he was able to draw whatever he wanted which is an okay because it opens your creativity.

NThe author’s point of view in the poem is that being a new, different kid is really hard. He shows this throught the story. One time is in the first stanza the poem states, “The kids pointed and the kids laughed at the young man that sat in the back of the class. Also later in the poem it talks about how the kids make fun of how he dresses, and talk about their is nothing he can do based on how he is outnumbered 50 to 1. In the end of the poem he leaves the school. This shows that being a new and different kid can be tough because getting teased about his clothes is a hard thing to overcome.
