Worksite wellness is a culture of which surrounds a company that extends a variety of support and opportunities towards health and wellness for its employees. Best practices in wellness programs can, and have been shown to be, beneficial in decreasing overall stress levels, sick days among employees, while also increasing productivity, job satisfaction, and overall health, among many others. A successful culture is not only built around a sound program engrained from a company’s mission and vision statement, but also a supportive management system that is able to promote and encourage employees to participate. With proper leadership support, a program that is built around the specific needs of employees along with proper motivation tools, employees can be presented with a multiplicity of healthy lifestyle choices, presenting both company and individual benefits.

It has been shown that employers from many organizations are able to see the benefits of instilling a wellness program due to the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of most, if not all employees. Employee stress is shown as the highest rated cause of presenteeism within organizations, and that stress management programs have been proven to decrease this statistic. Employee wellbeing in all facets has not only been shown beneficial to the employee but also to the organization. Lack of leadership support and employee engagement has been shown to be one of the top precursors to an unsuccessful wellness program. There must be more research conduct on not only leadership support on the success of wellness programs, but how leadership support tied in with motivational tactics leads to employee engagement, and therefore a successful wellness program.

Possible Question:
1. Does successful leadership typically entail alterations motivational tactics per different groups of employees?

2. Does leadership support that has been shown to create positive outcomes have to be linked to motivational tools used?

Resources:
Willis Towers Watson.
