This is my first reflective blog, and I want to share my first impressions and feelings about the pre-sessional course. I think this course will help me become more and more confidence and concentrate, cause my tutor always encourages me and my classmates, so I believe that it is very important in our study, I like this feeling. To be honest, this method of education is not same as my country, I remember when I was in primary school, junior high school, and even senior high school, the education of my country in this stages, teachers always use severs and putting students down to educate students, although I fully understand this method of my country, it not a good way to cultivate student's confidence and inspire student's potential. So I think I am a lucky girl, because I can communication and study in the UCA pre-session course with my tutor Jamie and 15 classmates which use interesting and encourage method of education to guidance students. Finally I think I should improve my self-discipline in study English and often rethink something what always influence me, I think I should find some ways to deal with this problems.

Today I was working on dealing with complex emotions. A lot of negative emotions are always rush into my brain and I find that I can't control them. For example, sometimes I will jealous someone who better than me, such as my colleague, my relative, even my friends. And those feelings make me spend a lot of energy.

I was curious to see whether I can eliminate these negative emotions by adjust my mindset.

However, it wasn’t as easy as it looked, because when I feel angry or unhappy, I always easily to negate myself. So I ask for the internet to help this problem, I do some research online, and some people said that 'jealousy is like the coolest emotion, because jealousy tells you what you want, you can't be jealousy of somebody unless you want the thing that they have. Jealousy is your deepest desires and dreams blocked by your fear, your fear your insecurity

your imposter syndrome your past trauma all that garbage, it has put a lid on what's meant for you.'

Looking back, I now realize that when I feel jealous of someone or something or some opportunity, I think I should take control of the moment and to realize I am living in the coolest moment in time, I should believe that I can study to those people who I am jealous.

From now on, I will try to adjust the mindset about myself when I feel myself putting the lid on and I feel that negative energy coming on, just to change and control it.

And I saw this machine online, the short video introduction it can cleaning the escalator efficient.

So,I wanted to find out the real working ability of this machine.

The results weren’t what I was expecting, because it can not leaning the escalator clean, basically no difference and no cleaning before, so I think it is a useless technology.

What I learned is that I should know more about the product I want to use or buy. When I do this kind of work in future, I’m going to comparing more products of the same type and learning more about each industry is what I need to do well in the future, because these preparations can help me avoid some troubles, at the same time, I also can improve my knowledge reserve, when I meet the same problem or work, may be I can deal with them faster and easier.

Speaking of the activism I once participated in, I would like to talk about an activism movement I participated in last year. It was organized by many animal protection activists. They called on people to love animals and jointly wrote a letter to the government, asking the government to issue an animal protection law. I also participate in it, because I love animals very much, whether it is pets or wild animals, I believe that human beings should not hurt them, they should love them. Together, we made a canvas bag with the animal protection bill and pictures printed on it, hoping to influence more people. Besides, we collected money and supplies for the stray animal shelter center, hoping that the small animals could live a better life. We went well and the result was expected. We collected some money and supplies for the animals, but the government's animal protection law has not yet been issued.

The latest years, I find that the relationship between friends need I pay more attention and manage it. It is the tender thing in everyone lifetime.

It wasn’t as easy as it looked, because everyone has their own ideas and ways of doing anythings. In addition, communication is also a very important thing, but there are often misunderstandings through language transmission, which is one of the reasons for the fragile relationship between friends. Looking back, I think the problem was that I care too much about my feelings and not giving too much attention to friendship. In other words, I feel like I take my friends too much for granted, I attach too many things to my friends, I shouldn't do that, how other people choose or what kind of habits they have, I think that I can't change, even if there are things that affect my feelings and emotions.

I see that I need to work on my ways about deal with friendship. I should try to understand others more, instead of just looking at the problem itself, to think about the source of the problem.

From now on, I will try to Have the patience to understand others and try to change my mindset and perspective.

Today we learned two new techniques about active listening and seminar. I wanted to find out if those ways can help me to improve the listening skill, such as be attentive, ask open-ended questions, ask probing question, request clarification, paraphrase, be attuned to and reflect feelings, and summarize. Because those method is also important in seminar.

It was useful to learn how to active listening as seminar skill, because of the fact that in British education, seminar is a important part, it can help students to learn how to do a presentation and give others a comment and a active skill. In those practice, students can improve their confidence and communication skill, in addition, their can study different culture from students come form all over the world. It was exactly what I had been hoping for, this is because of I want to study in UK, and touch more technical skill and expend my horizon, in other words, I can open my mind by study in UK.

I see that I need to work on my presentation skill, to show myself more great and confident. And I also need to try to improve my active listening skill by those methods in today's Classe. The next time I do this activity, I will focus on improve my presentation skill and active listening.

Today I was working on rethink my pallet before. I totally have 8 pallet and each work have about 120-150 word, but some of them is my personally feeling, and I didn't make some design on them, so I just research some picture online.

I was inspired by the knowledge points in each class, such as videos, articles, and professional knowledge taught by teachers to try and reflect on oneself study and work and so on. My motivation is that I often reflect on the problems I encounter, which can help me better finish my studies and work, and it will bring me a positive attitude and direction in life. I was curious to see whether reflective can make me more better when I doing something I was done. Whenever I complete my own padlet, I feel a sense of accomplishment, because I can realize my own problems through reflection, so that I can have a chance to do the same thing better in the future.

It was useful to learn how to summarize your own problems or the work of others as improve my ability or expertise to deal with problems. But my class yesterday made me realize that my reflection lacked design and search.

For me, I felt it was successful as a result of It made me aware of a lot of questions, such as how can I understand activisim and other artists' work in depth, what social issues can I see through this work, and how should I think about these issues, In other words, it was a completely new way of learning for me.

Unfortunately, I didn’t some of achieve what I set out to because I should know more about these artists and their works, and add my own designs.

Looking back, I now realize that an in-depth understanding of artists' works and ideas can help me better understand social issues and art research. If I had given myself more time, I would have doing more searching and observing, so it would have helped me understand it better.

To make my outcome look more professional, I have to get to know the artists and their work in depth and add your own designs, such as pictures, paintings or manuscripts. If I could redo my previous reflections, I would add more search and design.

In today’s lesson, we learned academic writing. I was inspired by the video to try use passive voice to emphasize actions when appropriate and use the academic vocabulary. And I find out I should avoid first person. And finally the important thing is hedges to avoid absolute statement, in other words, use the precise word is really important in academic writing. Assessment about written reflection should be written using this style.

It was useful to learn how to use the academic words as writing, because it can help me improve the writing skill, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked, because I need to remember a lot of precise academic vocabulary, which I may not be able to do in a short time, but I know I need to stick to it.

Looking back, I now realize that In previous English writing tests, such as IELTS writing, I used too many unacademic words, such as good, big, get, and I should replace them with quality, substantial, obtain and so on. If I had chance to written those articles again, I would use the knowledge and rules I learned today.

When I do this kind of work in future, I’m going to use academic words and avoid the first person, to make my outcome look more professional accumulate more academic vocabulary from now on.

In the same way, Camila Rosa, Kate Louise Powell, and Philip McCulloch-Downs art was show on street. And both of them depict the animals rights, in other words, They are all protecting animals with their actions.

While Banksy‘s work is installation art, others works is painting. As for me, they are different in that Camila Rosa, Kate Louise Powell and Philip McCulloch-Downs, their work is full of cruelty and compassion, and they are making people take it seriously in this way, but Banksy‘s work is very interesting, very light, with innocence and humor to tell people a kind of story.

What I learned is that whatever the form and method of expression, can impress people is a successful work.

From now on, I will try to think about the work from a variety of angles, it can help me complete understanding and understand more deeply.

To make my outcome look more professional, I should have to more understand of the background and creative process of the artists I choose, in other words, I need to understand them more deeply.

At first I found it a bit difficult, as my internet search is limited and I need VPN to see some foreign artists and creations, but it went well because I got the results I was looking for. I found four artists who also spoke out for animal rights, and their work moved me and resonated with me enough. If I can support animals rights and protection like them, I will be very proud and satisfied with myself.

This action is very important for human, we should always have been supported in all over the world. Next, I should think about what specific things I can do for protect animals and what else can I learn from these works or artists.

Reflections On The Public Art In My City

This is a piece of public art that I shot inside a subway station in Beijing. When I found this work, I just thought it was beautiful and exquisite, but when I understood its concept and background, I was deeply attracted by it. It is inspired by traditional Chinese architectural features, combined with modern metal mesh design and production. It gives new vitality to traditional elements in orbital space, so it represents the vitality of human beings in the continuous development of this world.

Analyse the art: Why is it there? Why do you think this location was chosen?

The name of this subway station is called Future Science and Technology City. In my opinion, the reason why this artwork is placed in this subway station represents the hope of people. It is as pure and simple as the sky, but at the same time, it also contains the characteristics of ancient Chinese architecture, just like the continuous progress of human beings.

Who is the artist?

This artwork was jointly designed by a team, but it is not a well-known team. Currently, I cannot find the information and background of this team.

Does it have a political or social message?

I don't think there is any political message in this work, but there is part of a social message. I ask myself why was it built inside the subway station? Why not outside or around? In my opinion, it promotes the progress of the subway to the development. In the modern architecture, the subway station can also exist such a huge art work, which undoubtedly represents that Beijing, China attaches great importance to the development of the subway.

Why is it difficult to find activist art in China? Why is it different to England?

I like this question very much. Let's start with politics. For the vast majority of China's 5,000 years of culture, one party ruled, or the dictatorship of the emperor. Any action that interferes with unity, such as radicalism, is aggressive in the eyes of the rulers. They put an end to these dangers because radicalism changes society and people, which is not allowed. Chinese artists rarely engage in activism; they generally serve the government or the right. And the people they serve are the enemies of radicalism.

Relatively speaking, Britain is more democratic and people can change things if they want to. Slowly radicalism was born and grew. On the issue of radicalism, I fully understand China's approach, and I also appreciate the development of the UK. There is no right or wrong, only suitability or not.

The character of art in tell truth became a significant part in amidst global.

The second text talk about the decline in trust in government gives business a specific opportunity to be a positive agent of change.
Reflection About My Presentation

My performance today in my presentation.

In today's lesson, we practiced presentation. I was curious to see whether my presentation was appropriate and wonderful, because I spent many hours working on this slide. I looked up a lot of information about animal rights on the Internet, and this experience helped me a lot. It made me have a deep understanding of animal rights. Before, I at least thought that animal rights meant that we needed to protect wild animals, like what World Animal Protection does. But after reading a lot of literature and data, I learned that all animals need their own rights, just like human beings. This is not only wild animals, but also pets, livestock and many non-artificial animals. I enjoyed the process of learning how to support animals rights because I've been obsessed with this question for years. In fact, many years ago, I read on the Internet that human beings are cruel to animals and aggression. At that time, although I was in an atmosphere, but there was nothing I could do, I could only choose to escape and no longer pay attention to these problems. But my escape will not solve any problem, because in too many places in the world, there are still too many animals that are not protected, as if they were born to be made into meat or commodities.

I’m very pleased with the results because This experience made me face the problem that I had been afraid to face for years, it made me brave, and I seemed to know what I should do in the future to make my contribution to animal rights. But I realized there were some areas where I wasn't doing enough, and Jamie reminded me that I needed to include more bibliographies and citations. Next time I will definitely include these research sources in my work.

The Presentation Skills class:

The man gives five advise: 1. prepare the stage 2.prime your audience 3.presenter view 4. be brief 5. use your camera

What I learned is that my presentation is in full-screen mode before I start so I open ppt I go run scream sure I may get it to the first slide and I can hit Alt+tab to go back to zoom. And I learned in this video about I have gonna lose my audience a whole lot quicker when I am presenting that I should be brief. So I'm going to practice ahead of the presentation on Thursday as suggested in the video, especially the preparation phase and the brief.

Reflection About My Mock Presentation

Today, I was working on mock presentation in our class with my tutor and classmate. I was a bit hesitant because i feel i have a little bit nervous at first.

I feel that in the course of the speech, I may have some problems with the pronunciation of some words. It was a success for me because my poster was comprehensive and I used signpost language. I was pleased with the structure of my presentation, I thought it was very clear. However, I still have a few problems with the poster, which is that I did not add source references to all the images and videos, even though I did include a bibliography, which is obviously not enough.

In retrospect, I now understand that how to cite a pictures and videos, I need to go to the UCA library to look up the format of the citation, I need to cite the source of each image, which includes the author, the time, the website, and so on.

The next time I do this activity, I will focus on continuous contact with the speech, so that my own speech language more skilled and confident，I think it's very necessary.

Reflective Blog about 6-week pre-sessional English

Description

Since my IELTS score was not as high as I needed,so I took a 6-week pre-sessional English course to improve my English skills. At first I found it a bit difficult, because I felt very nervous and worried about my listening ability, my English listening ability was not very good, at the same time I was also worried that I could not communicate effectively with teachers and classmates, because my IELTS speaking score was only 5.5. In other words, I was a bit hesitant because I was not confident about myself at the beginning.

Feelings

In the six weeks of class, I found it really fascinating because I feel reap a great harvest, because it not only helped me improve my English skills, but also allowed me to learn about artists and art works, and re-understand some social issues. But most importantly, it gave me a new way of learning. Reflective writing in particular, I really think that has helped me a lot, not just now, but definitely in the future.

Evaluation

It went well because I got the results I was looking for and there were some surprises. I think it went well because I almost always finished Jamie's homework on time, every day. In addition, the homework assigned by Jamie was very helpful to me. I could feel that those homework was not only logical and complete, but also helped me to review the knowledge points in class very efficiently. I like the feeling of not procrastinating, so self-discipline allows me to have a lot of time to learn more knowledge, and self-discipline gives me freedom. However I also have some problems in my study, looking back, I think the problem was that I often overlook important details. For example, I did not add any reference on my original poster, and I directly copy the original sentence of the article in my mock writing exam. If I hadn’t made those mistakes, I wouldn‘t have lost those points!

Analysis

On reelection, I realized that I should observe and learn more about important details and check with teachers or professionals. If I had checked to the teacher, I would better understand this. On balance though, I have learned excellent learning methods in this class, including reflective writing, speech and discussion. These learning methods not only help me learn English and social issues, artists and works, but also will certainly help me more in the future, making me efficient and thoughtful-deepth in both work and study.

Outcome

What I discovered is the six weeks of study not only enhanced my confidence, but also allowed me to learn a lot of ways of learning and opened up my mind, because I rethought many social issues and art works concerned by activism.

Action Plan

To achieve a better result, I need to think about problems from as many angles as possible, observe the excellent work and details of others as much as possible, prevent myself from making some mistakes in details, and make my work and study more complete and professional.
